Best of luck Marauders! 'Tuesday night blahs! Inconsistent Cents lose 10-5 to Essa by RON JOHNSON Midland Centennials have to learn to play 60 minutes of hockey, especially against the better teams in the Georgian Bay Junior C League. After spotting the tough Essa 80's a 5-0 lead in Tuesday's game, the visiting Cents dropped a 10-5 decision. Manager Doug Fox stated, "after a shakey start by Dwayne (Latondress) and our defensive play in general, we played Essa very well. We had the chances to perhaps win Ita The team came back from the early deficit to within two goals at 6-4.and had a man ad- vantage for five minutes to start the third period. A shorthanded goal by Essa broke the game wide open. Goal scorers for the C's were Brian Garner, John Walter, Al Whidden, Ken Mugford, and Shawn Davy. Cents gave up four powerplay goals in the game, as well as the shorthanded tally. Biggest deterrant for Midland all season has been their lack of consistency, and coach Ross McConnell was about to change that at Wednesday's practice. Practices have been rather easy of late and according to Fox they will get tougher. '\ "The boys' are always ready to stay on the ice at the end of practice and it should be just the opposite. We'll arrange things so they work harder at the end then at the beginning. It should get the motivation level up for the game situations." Cents' next four games are against teams they should beat, so this is a good time to get their game together. The team needs a win or a series of them to pick up their spirits. They are at home to Huntsville on Friday, play in Oro next Wednesday, then have a home and home series with Parry Sound next weekend. Midland's final resting place in the stan- dings will be better established after those games. C-NOTES....Larry McMann is joining the team after a tour of the "'Bush" league in Elmvale....His size and hard shot from the point will be a big asset to the Cents....Gord Tuckerman will be the odd man out and will either remain with the team as seventh defenceman or go down to the Midland juveniles where he can work on his skating and experience more ice time....Gord's been an enthusiastic, if sometimes overzealous, performer this year...Game time Friday is 8:30 p.m. \ y, Atte) Abe Second ---- ee cca i Bion ewyestment Certs ficates staried competing in Right about here: they'll be trying to put them on the button this weekend at the Midland Curling Club. It's the annual Cumming-Nicholson Mixed Bonspiel running tomorrow and Sunday. There are two draws on Saturday at 9and 11 in the morning and one on Sunday at 11 a.m. Legion midgets drop Orillia 7-6 Midland Legion major midgets travelled to Orillia on Sunday and defeated the home team 1-6. Owen Quilty paced the Legion with two goals and two assists, while Ralph Seeman had a pair of goals and one assist. Tom Hook, Mike McLaughlin, and Darryl Belcourt each added a goal and assist. Defensive ace Gary MclIravey set up two goals in another strong effort. According to coach Andy Traynor, the Legion played their system well for two periods, staking out leads of 3-0 and 5-1. Short-staffed due to local high school exams, the team ran out of gas in the last period and were victimized by some tainted goals scored by Orillia, which could have been offside. Next game for. the midgets is Dec. 8 when they play host to Collingwood at the Centennial Arena at 8 p.m. Answers 2.
