Town can be proud of its volunteers SPEAKING WITH Fire Chief Ted Light of Penetanguishene last Thursday morning, the chief noted his brigade hadn't been called out to extinguish a blaze since Oct. 31. The chief spoke too soon. -- That night (Nov. 25) local firefighters were called out to quell a stubborn chimney fire. Despite the lack of calls, Penetanguishene firefighters continue to train rigorously each month. The town can be very proud of the men who man the fire department's apparatus and equipment. They are a dedicated lot, right down to the last man. Tis the season to be jolly OWNER-OPERATORS of the Roxy Theatre in Midland and the Pen Theatres in Penetanguishene win a special verbal bouquet. They'll be hosting pre-Christmas '"'Can Goods Shows"' with proceeds (foodstuffs) going to Midland Salvation Army as part of the Sally Ann's annual Christmas Cheer-Hamper Program. The Roxy will be hosting its program this Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. while the Pen will be staging its on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 1:30 p.m. The above theatres again prove, T'is the season to be jolly. BLESS HIS BRASS BUTTONS, that Jolly Gent himself, Santa Claus, will be in Midland this Saturday (Dec. 4) to take part in Midland Civitan Club's annual Santa Claus Parade. The parade will work its way down King Street from the arena to the town dock sharp at 1 p.m., reports Parade Chairman Mike Tinney. The gala extravaganza promises to be a "Biggie" with dozens of floats, bands, clowns etc. to delight people of all ages. Through these annual parades, members of Midland Civitan Club have been able to put fun back into Christmas and for this they win our personal praise.
