Drowning inquest starts this morning in Midland The death by drowning of Peter Robitaille, 34, formerly of Penetanguishene, during a sudden, violent storm last Aug. 28, is the subject of a coroner's inquest this morning in the Midland council chamber. Robitaille was participating, with two companions, in the annual Midland Bay Sailing Club Hope Island Race, when the storm swept over Georgian Bay and swamped the craft which the three men were racing. An inquest into the death in the Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre's Oak Ridge division last Aug. 23 of Stanley Carson, 32, which had been set for Dec. 15, has been set back. The Carson inquest, under Coroner Dr. Herman Jilesen, is tentatively set for Feb. 2 of next year, the Midland OPP has been informed. The Mitchell May inquest resumes on Dec. 16. The inquest into the hanging suicide of Mitchell, in Oak Ridge's B Ward, last Sept. 13, went for a full day last Wednesday. OTTAWA REPORT Lewis says, UIC treats adopted parents unfairly Doug Lewis, deputy opposition house leader and MP for Simcoe North urged the federal government to change the UIC maternity benefits provisions to include adoptive parents. In a motion placed before the House of Commons, Lewis urged that adoptive parents be extended maternity benefits in the in- terests of "equity and fairness". He noted a 1981 Task Force on Unem- ployment Insurance also recommended that the change be made. "A number of my constituents have asked me why they, as adoptive parents, are not entitled to maternity benefits even though they are required by the adoption agency to ...Off the press voiume II of the East Georgian Bay Historical Journal is now available. "I like this town, I enjoyed being here," he said, 'and I hear nothing but good things said about the town of Penetanguishene. You get a lot done with a small amount of money here." Mayor Ron Bellisle spoke of the 11 years of dedicated service Councillor Tannahill has given the town. "T have been working with Ken for eight of those years, and I have enjoyed my association with him. I will remember and cherish my association with Ken for years to come," said the mayor. Mayor Bellisle said he hoped that Mr. Tannahill would be willing to serve on committees or boards for Penetanguishene. Deputy Reeve Frances St. Amant echoed these sentiments. Councillor Tannahill told council, 'It was not a personal duel, running against Art. I'd been here long enough. It was time to move up or move out. I wish Art well.'"' Reeve Art Stewart, who defeated Councillor Tannahill in the election, thanked Tannahill for his good wishes and for the "Honest and gentlemanly way he ran his campaign." Councillor Lionel Dion said, 'Ken has always acted as a gentleman. Although there have been disagreements, he never held a grudge." Councillor Bob Cascagnette, who was defeated in his bid to unseat Deputy- reeve Frances St.. Amant, was absent from the meeting.
