Treat your funny bone to laughs BY MARY HASKILL Tonight is the night--the opening of Huronia Players' 1982-83 season. As has been the pleasant custom for the past few years, first- nighters will be entertained by the Players with dessert and coffee served in the MSS Staff Louge starting at 6:30 p.m. From there they will go to the auditorium to enjoy the first presentation of the Moliere comedy, THE IMAGINARY INVALID. Just as Broadway productions open out of town, Huronia Players premiered an experpt of THE IMAGINARY INVALID at St. Marie Among the Hurons on Thanksgiving as part of the annual Esprit d'Ouendake. Being able to say "They loved us at St. Marie." gives them confidence as_ they present the entire play this weekend. A seventeenth century play was a natural choice as part of Esprit d'Ouendake -- sort of a "meanwhile back in France" idea. Raymand Hot, as director and designer, has tried as much as possible within the means at his disposal to suggest the times in which the play was created and first staged. The set in simple as it would have been in Moliere's day, without a box set, just side cur- tains and a background. Costumes, while not strictly accurate in materials and _ con- struction, do try to follow the general ap- pearance of those shown in pictures of that time. And the --er-- '"'Medical instrument"' used by the Apothecary in his un- pleasant tasks is con- structed according to a picture of one actually used in early France although some may think it is exaggerated. THE IMAGINARY INVALID stars Raymond Knight as the invalid, with Sara Knight, Mike MacVittie, John Hansler, Keith McNally, May Williams, Barry Daily and many other favourites. It will be staged tonight and Saturday and again Nov. 26 and 27. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Huronia Office Ser- vices, Barker & Haskill Ltd., Mac's Milk in the Huronia Mall ~ and Gignac's Children's Wear ion Penetanguishene. Season's tickets for the three-play season are still available and will be on sale at the box office on play nights. It's going to be a BIG parade Santa Claus will be coming to Midland, Dec. 4. That's the day he'll be taking part in Midland Civitan Club's giant Santa Claus Parade. There's to be one new wrinkle in this year's parade, reports Civitan Mike Tinney (parade chairman). The parade, which will start sharp at 1 p.m., will start out from the arena parking lot and work its way north along King Street. It will conclude at the dock area this year. Meanwhile the local Civitan Club has been assured the Dec. 4 parade will be a dandy. So far five marching bands have indicated they'll be taking part. In all, to date, the club has received a total of 30 entries with more coming in each week. In 1981-82 the club raised $60,000 with $20,000 being poured back into the community through charitable contributions. A wih Friday, November 19, 1982, Page 3 pap wo lagi ae Sap Vhong ' ee ==
