The team, composed of skip Ruston, vice- Robillard, and lead Denis Gignac, won five straight games before losing 4-3 to Dave The Commodore Redskins slaughtered the Unknowns 56-0 last weekend in their final sacrificial offering of the 1982 Penetanguishene- Midland Touch Football League season before the playoff rites begin this Sunday. The Redskins wound up their season just as they maintained it throughout-- undefeated, and very much on top of things. The rest of the league also played last Sunday, though, settling the final order in an effort to determine which among them might be lucky enough to buy time before the Redskins lower the championship boom in a couple of weeks. The Dial-A-Movie Strikers main- tained their second-place standing despite a 34-20 loss to the third-place Huronia Optical Crusaders, the Brooklea Eagles settled into fourth with a 31-0 whipping of Midnite Express, the Cumming-Nicholson Stompers clobbered the Hydro Hawks 32-0, the Guzzlers edged the Raiders 13-12 and the Renegades got by the Broncos 9-0. This Sunday's semi-finals will match the unfortunate Eagles against the Redskins (Midland . Secondary School, 12 noon), the Strikers against the Crusaders (Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School, 12 noon), the fifth-place Guzzlers against the eighth-place Unknowns (MSS, 1:15 p.m.), the sixth-place Stompers against the seventh-place Raiders (ESPSS, 1:15 p.m.), the ninth-place Hawks against the 12th- place Renegades (MSS, 2:30 p.m.), and the 10th-place Broncos against the l1lth-place Express (ESPSS, 2:30 p.m.). Midland stopped short in- tourney The Midland Oldtimers won two games before being stopped by the eventual division champions at last weekend's fourth annual Georgian Bay Oldtimners Hockey Tournament at the Flos-Elmvale Community Centre. Sixteen teams took part in the event -- four in each of four divisions -- with the Toronto Overland Express Wheelers winning the 'A' division titile. The 'B' division was won by the Agincourt Antiques (last year's 'A' winners), the 'C' crown was taken home by the Mississauga Rattlers -- who bumped off the Midland con- tingent -- and the 'D' hardware was earned by the Mississauga Evacuees. The host Georgian Bay Indians -- a club based in Elmvale but which includes players from all across Huronia -- concentrated on hosting the competition and didn't take part in the on-ice activity. The Midland squad started off the event with a 3-2 decision over the innisfil Lamplighters. Edgar Dorion did all the scoring in that one, plotting both regulation-time goals for win.
