St. T's runners collect top team finishes St. Theresa's High School of Midland managed to grab four fourth-place team finishes in six divisions of last week's Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Athletic Association Cross-country cham- pionships at Horseshoe Valley Ski Resort. All three of the STHS boys' teams plus the girls' Junior team placed fourth in the 35- school event. The school's Senior girls' squad wound up in seventh place. St. Theresa's fielded only three Midget girls--one short of the required team quota. Keegos dive right onin The Midland YMCA Keegos swam their first meet of the season this past weekend, playing host to Muskoka, Orillia, Owen Sound and Port Elgin. The team was led by Seven First-Place Finishers. Anne Leavens (11 &12 girls) swam to first place in the 100 breaststroke, and Polly Ann Hayward (15 & over girls) swam to first in the 100 butter fly. The boys were led by strong showings by Joel Magnan, J. J. Gurman and Tim Bourrie. Joel Magnan (10 & under boys) placed first in the 100 breast, 100 free, and 200 I.M. J.J. (11&12 boys) placed first in all four of its events: 200 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 100 I.M. Tim Bourrie (15 & over boys) won first-place honours in the 200 I.M. and 200 free. Other first place finishers were Danny Whittam (11 & 12 boys 100 breast) and Andre Bourrie (15 & over boys 100 fly). A number of swim- mers improved their own personal best times, which after only six weeks of training is quite an ac- complishment. Improved _ perform- ances were turned in by Melissa Cave, Genevieve -- Brusslers, Murielle Henry, Lise Magnan, Heather Cairns, Jason Perssell, Joel Magnan, Steve Maurice, Bryan Shouldice, Danny Whittam, Toben Jerry, Doug Cave, and Tim Bourrie. The Keegos swim their next meet Nov. 14, in Bracebridge. Page 32, Wednesday, November 3, 1982 The school's top placing was earned by Kerry Heins, who led the STHS Senior boys' contingent with an eighth-place finish. The three other top Seniors were Kris Cote (17th), Drew Varley (32nd) and Jim Newton (34th). Kevin Belcourt helped the Junior boys to their fourth-place effort, with a 20th-place finish. Other Junior boys were Jim Madigan (25th), Brian Berriault (35th) and Mark Gieseler (37th). Pat Marchand placed 13th in the Midget boys' section, followed by teammates Mike Piuato (21st), Robbie Fortin (29th) and Robbie Charlebois (71st). Bahdii Faith It teaches: "O Children of Men! Thirty-five schools, including all five Huronia high schools, took part in the event. West of 400, Barrie Taxi squad fares well Hebner's Taxi more than doubled their goal output and kept up with the undefeated pace of Olympia Sports when they clobbered Per- formance Motor Sports 16-3 in Midland Recreational Hockey League action Sunday at Midland Arena. In other MRHL play this week, Olympia swatted Top Hat Amusements 8-4, the Duggan Polar Kings slammed the Barrel Works 11-4 and the Roadrunners squeaked past the North Stars 4-3. The Hebner's and Olympia victories were the fourth in as many starts for the co-league leaders. Hebner's 16 Sunday goals boosted their season total to 30, while Olympia stayed ahead with a 35 total after their eight-goal evening. Despite their em- barrassing loss--their first. of the season-- Performance managed to keep a grip on third place with two victories and a tie to their credit.
