President Eva Kaiser reported the _ great success of the club's summer project, the Nature Day Camp for Children. The camp staff was made up of a group of enthusiastic and energetic young people who did all their own preparations, and completed an excellent report at the conclusion of the camp. Doug Vincent, wildlife technologist, visitor services co-ordinator, and park naturalist at Awenda Provincial Park, was introduced by Eva Kaiser. In 1960 when Awenda Provincial Park came into being it was designated as a recreational park. It soom became clear that it had much more to offer, and is now classed as a mnatural' Jen- vironment. park. Awenda has two possible meanings: "A man's word is _ his bond', and "You can trust me"' in the Huron dialect. Originally 1,000 campsites were plan- ned, but with the discovery of 22 ar- chiological sites in the park, as well as several geological finds it was decided to limit the number of campsites to 300. Sandy Agnew thanked Mr. Vincent and presented him with a gift from the club. Midland's Pete Hamelin is $25 richer this week. Three handmade quilts (one a prize winner from the Nine go through Royal Arch Purple Degree ceremony Last Saturday evening was a night to remember for local Orange Lodge members. The 10th Friendship Night was held in the Elmvale Orange Hall. This event was sponsored and hosted by the four local Orange Lodges of Midland (No. 947), Elmvale (No. 991), Allenwood (No. 1119) and Wyevale (No. 1386). The meeting was under the direction of Wor- shipful Master Lloyd Wood and his team of of- ficers, made up of the officers of the four lodges. It was with a great deal of pleasure that the Wor- shipful Master welcomed to the meeting the Grand Master of Ontario West, Rt. Worshipful Brother Ted Elmer of Tottenham, and the Grand Master of Ontario East, Rt. Worshipful Brother Eldon Brownlee of Ottawa, along with other Grand Lodge officers from both jurisdictions. One of the highlights of the evening was the introduction of the officers of the Victoria Loyal Orange County Lodge Degree Team from the Lindsay area of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ontario East. This team conducted the ceremony of the Royal Arch Purple degree with dignity and decorum and put through nine young men from this surrounding area. It was to be noted that two fathers watched as three sons went through the degree and also that one father-and-son team went through together. The guest speaker of the evening was Rt. Worshipful Brother Gordon McCracken, the President of the True Blue and Orange Home Board of Richmond Hill. Bro. McCracken outlined the work of the home and the many new directions which it has taken over the past two years. He stated that the various programs, under the agreement of the Ministry of Community and Social Services of the Province of Ontario, have lead to many experiments which have worked out very favourably, and are now being put into practice in other provinces and states in North America, after seeing what was done at the Home.
