CORN WILL BE KING A fun day in the works Corn will be king, Saturday, Aug. 14, when members of Elmvale and District Chamber of Commerce sprout a '"'corny idea." From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the community will host a gigantic corn roast. There will be lots to eat and drink with plenty of live music to set your toes a-tapping. : One of the highlights of this noming Saturday's Corn-fest in Elmvale will be a corn-on-the-cob eating contest at high noon. The girls from the Wyevale and CBO minor softball teams managed to provide some riveting viewing for most of the fans at their matchup in Wyevale last Sunday -- for all except this glassy-eyed racoon, that is. But, as the CBO mascot, he probably got plenty of cuddling despite his ap- parent disinterest. Time ts running out Book NOW Agricrew '82 has been in operation since June 21, 1982. The crews will only be working to August 13 so if you want to book a crew, you better phone your local agricultural office now. All of the crews have been busy for most of the program. Among the four crews they have missed a total of 10 days, which is pretty good for a program that is totally dependent on the weather. Some of the jobs they have been doing are: haying, fixing fence, weeding vegetables, cleaning out goat pens, sanding down a steel barn, cleaning out hay mows, whitewashing, painting, spot spraying, etc. They are all learning from all of their different jobs, and all of the crew- members seem to be problems that farmers pointed out to me have been taken care of, and all of the crews are working well. For those of you who are not familiar with the program, here is a brief description of the program. The program is sponsored by the O.M.A.F. and_ the Ontario Youth Secretariat. All of the crews in Simcoe County consist of two girls and two boys. Each crew has one working foreperson, and three crewmembers. The crews work an eight hour day which includes two ten minute breaks, but excludes the lunch hour. If you wish to book a crew, simply contact your local agricultural office. In North Simcoe phone 322-2231 for the Elmvale office. For South Simcoe phone 435- 5521 in the Alliston of- fice. The person to ask for is Betty Crawford, the agricrew _ co- erdinator for Simcoe County.
