Thirty-seven boats competed in last year's race and despite brisk, shifty winds over the 12- nautical-mile course, there were still less than 30 seconds separating the top two boats in fleets "A"' and "B"'. Symons will be out on Saturday to improve on his corrected time last year of 1:03:67. The race begins at 1:00 p.m. There is no entry fee and forms can be picked up at the Establishments, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and at many marinas in the Midland- Penetanguishene area. The race boasts many historic features» which set it apart from other sailing competitions around the province. The race draws its name from the "'Tecumseth", a topsail schooner stationed at the Penetanguishene Naval Establishment in the early 1800's. A plaque bearing a handcarved sketch of the "Tecumseth"? has become a coveted trophy among the sailing fraternity in southern Georgian Bay. Reproduction, 19th century, rope-handled buckets will once again be awarded to the winning boat in each fleet. Also, this year a new plaque, bearing a copy of a painting depicting the laun- ching of the Tecumseth in 1814, is being awarded to the winner of the centreboard division. Adding to the colour and historic ambience of the race is an authentically reproduced batteau from the 19th century which serves as a com- mittee boat with a crew of costumed sailors and soldiers from the Establishments.
