Dear Editor: Today being a beauliful sunshine day, I decided (o lake a few pictures of our New improved King Street, to send to my daughter in B.C. My walk took me down to the Town Dock, where I haven'! been for a few years. What a delightful surprise, it was beautifully laid oul, in cavaleades of flowers, benches, and seats where one could sil and watch the water, which was a beauliful navy blue that day. And the little parkette, that used to be a patch of weeds now, also had flowers and a seat, and table. Floating Trent-Severn Waterway Box 567 Peterborough, Ontario. Doctors' after-hours service imperfect Dear Editor: Over the past several months many letters have appeared in this paper relating to the availability of a doctor in Elmvale in the evening or on weekends. This is another such letter. It would appear that this is the one way individuals have to voice their concerns. We tend to sit back until we are directly involved. Such is the case here. This past Sunday our 19-month-old daughter sustained a cul to the head that required stitches. When the accident happened we immediately called the three doctors in town. We received a recording at all offices telling us to contact Penetanguishene General Hospital. the hospital we were told that a doctor was available in town and the supervisor would locate him and get back to us. Ten minutes later, we received a call from the hospital telling us that they had been unable to locate a doctor in town and we would be required to bring our daughter to the hospital for treatment. Upon arriving at Penetanguishene some 20 minutes later, the nurse al emergency examined our daughter and con- firmed that stitches would be required. A doctor was then called. For the next 45 minutes we at- lempted to keep our daughter content in the emergency wailing room, during supper hour, wailing for a doctor. Finally, a doctor, unfamiliar with our daughter and our family, arrived and gave her the required stitches. The treatment took approximately 10 minutes. It seems ridiculous to us that we were required to drive the distance to Penetanguishene; wait 45 minutes in emergency for an unknown doctor to apply stilches when we have three doctors living in the Village of Elmvale and the matter could have been attended to at any of their offices witha minimum of inconvenience to everyone con- cerned. It further irritates us that a doctor was not available when we arrived at the hospital after O'Hara to speak to our Rotarians John O'Hara, president of Penetanguishene Chamber of' Commerce is to be the guest speaker today at the Rotary Club of Penetanguishene's noon luncheon. He is to explain the role of the C. of C. and (the possible cooperation between the Chamber and the local Rotary Club. After calling - having called ahead. Most of you can appreciate the frustration of keeping an injured youngster quiet for such a length of time in unfamiliar surroundings. In closing, we would just like to say that we thank God that this was not a matter of life and death! It seems that we are now living in a small community with a majority of the doctors prac- lising in city style. We hope that more individuals will express their concerns to their respective physicians. Hopefully, if enough individuals speak up now the current practice can be amended to better provide the medical attention that is required after hours. --Scott and Debra McLean, Box 436, Elmvale, Ontario.
