os 23 calls for help last month: Fire Chief Midland firefighters responded to a total of 23 calls during the month of May, Fire Chief Terry Lethbridge's aclivily report for last month shows. Special program Spinning a different kind of yarn at St. Louis School by Adrienne Graham Gardner Students at Ecole St. Louis were trealed to a demonstration of the crafts of spinning and knitting on their second last day of school last week. The special program was organized by Anne Robitaille, grade one and two teacher, and featured her mother Mrs. Maria St. Amant, who has been a spinner for many years. Aliso demonstrating their knitting skills were Mrs. Simone Charlebois and Mrs. Georgette Lesperance. Mme. Robitaille displayed a copy of a 1945 article in the Toronto Star in which she ap- pears as a small child on her mother's knee, walching as her mother spins. The 84 pupils at St. Louis sat in a semi- circle on the auditorium floor, with rapt al- tention as raw wool was turned into skeins of knitting yarn by the nimble fingers of Mrs. St. Amant.
