--" Another 'first'for HDH patients and dedicated staff Continuing care patients at Huronia District Hospital celebrated Senior Citizens Week with a bus outing and an indoor picnic Tuesday. Originally organizer Heather Cowan (head nurse in the continuing care unit) had planned an outdoor picnic in Little Lake Park. "When bad weather threatened,"' said Heather, "we got wonderful cooperation from Penetang Midland Coach Lines. They took fifteen patients and their guests on a tour that included the grounds of the Martyrs' Shrine as well as the downtown area,"' she observed this week. Access to the bus was made easier with a wooden ramp constructed by the HDH maintenance staff. Junior Civitan members George Conthy, Albert Grace, Grant Ivens and Graeme Harbottle all assisted patients from their wheelchairs into bus seals. For many of the patients, this was the first time they had seen the renovated Town Centre, or the refurbished town dock area. Back at the hospital, patients and their guests enjoyed guitar music by Faye Parker. The hospital's dietary department provided sandwiches and a cake decorated with roses, and "Picnicing Pleasure'"' in icing. Said Brian Alves, chief physio therapist, "This first annual outing was a total cooperative venture. Every department in the hospital helped to make it happen. We hope it will become an annual highlight."' School daze! i Both Penetanguishene and Burk marking their centennials this year.
