Solicitor General makes important announcement Solicitor General George W. Taylor | (M.P.P. Simcoe Centre) today an- nounced an estimated $2.6 million expansion of the Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst. Taylor made the announcement following his visit to the Gravenhurst area recently. The college was established in 1949 to provide advanced training for municipal fire department officials and fire safety inspectors. The facility currently ac- commodates 46 students and 14 staff. "Our studies show that because of the demand for this type of advanced training the college should be ex- panded to accommodate up to 150 students and also the necessary ad- ditinal staff,' Taylor said. Through the initial expansion, the college will be able to accommodate 100 students. However, new kitchen and dining room facilities will be provided to handle the eventual student population of 150. As well, the expansion will include the addition of student and staff lounges, two suites for visitors, a laundry, registration offices and other auxiliary facilities. The project, which will proceed to tender late in 1982, will involve the replacement of some _ existing buildings with new structures built to modern fire safety and energy con- servation standards. The initial construction will have a gross exterior area of about 2,400 square meters (25,800 square feet).
