game 27-7. This is what's known in rugger as a loose ruck. .although it appears more like a collapsed scrum. In any event this picture shows Midland Bulls and Barrie II's rugger players during last Saturday matinee of rugger at the MSS pitch. Hosts lost the Gentlemen please! MSS nailed as clock dies A couple of let-ups in the final five minutes of play allowed Barrie's Innisdale Secondary School to post a tough 12-11 decision over -a combined Junior-Mi- dget Midland Secondary School squad in zone league rugby action last Thursday in Barrie. Despite the loss, both MSS teams' earned berths in yesterday's Georgian Bay Secon- dary Schools Athletic Association zone playoffs at Brock Secondary School in Cannington. Bulls take in classic clash A busload of Bulls will charge' Toronto's Varsity Stadium Monday to take in the Labatt's International Rugby Match between the Canadian Eastern All-Stars and the English Nationals. Midland Bulls co- coach John Nix is still taking reservations for the trip, and anyone interested in taking in the exhibition classic can reach Nix at 526- 5344. The game gets un- derway at 2 p.m. Nix says tickets should go for about $8 (maximum), depending on the response. The Toronto game is Darl es0f athe errs Canadian tour the English Nationals have made since 1967. England shared a second place finish (one point behind Ireland) with Scotland in the 1981-82 Five Nations Cup, the premiere rugby competition in the world. England's only other stop on the tour, outside of six games in the United States, will be a game against the Canadian national team on May 29, 1982 at Swagard Stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia. England has selected its top players for this tour. Fullback "Dusty"' (W.H.) Hare, from Leicester is the most prolific points scorer in rugby history. Other national side veterans are centre Clive Woodward, outside-half Les Cusworth, and England's outstanding hooker for the past 10 years, Peter Wheeler. Canadian rugby fans will also remember J.P. Scott, of Cardiff, and Tony Bond, of Sale, who were part of England's Under 23 tour of Canada in 1977. The Canada East side will be chosen from among 50 players in- vited to a training and selection camp scheduled for May 7-9, at York University. These will be the best from Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. Some of the players selected for the Toronto match will join - the Canadian national team for the game in Burnaby, B.C. YMCA spirits up for annual Run for Fun Rick Leclair of the Midland YMCA says he's still optimistic and confident that the number of entries in Monday's YMCA/C- KMP Run for Fun will at least equal last year's turnout, despite a slow start this time around. As of Tuesday, only a handful of entries had been received for the fitness jog, said Leclair. Last year, about 70 local runners were involved in the event. "We expect a lot of them to come in Thursday and Friday," said the run organizer. "That's the way it usually goes in this kind of thing." Friday is the deadline for registration for this year's third edition of the run, which is designed to promote fitness and the sport of jogging. The three Run for Fun routes are of two-mile (3.2 km), four-mile (6.4 km) and six-mile (9.6 km) distances. All routes begin at the YMCA and finish with a kick south on KingSt. to the YMCA. The run will begin at 1 p.m. Spot prizes will be awarded to. several lucky runners, free T- shirts will be distributed to the first 20 to register and refreshments will be available. For further in- formation or entry forms, drop by the Y or contact Leclair at 526- 7828. Page 24, Wednesday, May 19, 1982 Results of that competition were unavailable at press time. MSS controlled last Thursday's game throughout most of the 60 minutes of play (when combined sides are used, four 15-minute quarters are played instead of the usual 40- minute halves), but their late-game let-ups allowed Innisdale two converted tries. Chris Chenier scored two tries for Midland and Lloyd Pilon kicked a three-point penalty. cy: re ey SSO PRB 1 sa BA # ons KeEStTOTIE METRIX RADIA '60 REBATE JOIN US IN OUR 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND TAKE PART IN AN OUTSTANDING TIRE REBATE PROGRAM Visit your Firestone Store or participating dealer and make your best deal! on a set of new 721 Metrix steel belted radials.
