May 20 - 24 is officially called Reunion Weekend and the' theme is come and remember the good times. Beginning tomorrow the Local History Fair will begin at the High Poyntz Mall. The competition is sponsored by the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Com- mittee and the Naval and Military Establish- ments. 'Entries from local schools will be set up for public viewing as well as for class visits. The competition is an excellent means _ of becoming more familiar with the heritage of the town. Learn why St. Ann's has only one tower completed or who has been important in the early history of the town. Be sure to visit this display and meet some of the trophy and medallion winners. Friday the 21st will see two important ceremonies on the town dock. The Chamber of Commerce will have a dedication ceremony for the trees pledged for Centennial Park. A brief ceremony with the signing of a document for a time capsule will begin at 1:30 Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, etc took St. Paul's Church. Midland Legion Pipes p.m. Following this ceremony the Town of Did themselves proud part Sunday afternoon in a district church and Drums led off the colourful parade. Penetanguishene will officially open the = nae Chamber's new office on the town dock. parade from the town docks in Midland to Dignitaries, guests and the general public are warmly invited to these ceremonies. Saturday is the final day in the Centennial Beard and Mustache Competition. Judging is Saturday afternoon and the winners will be announced that night at the gala Centennial Forest Ball. This is a costumed event but of course all are welcome with or without centennial at- lire. The dance tickets at $10 per couple are available at the door and from Chalet Sports, Dock Lunch or Bryant's Jewellers... The west compartment of the Marsh is being drained and will remain in this drawdown stage until the early fall of 1982. Draining is a management technique used to rejuvenate the Marsh. Oxygen is allowed to penetrate the muck layer of the Marsh bottom which speeds up the decomposition of the accumulated plant material. Through this decomposition, im- portant nutrients are released and proper acid levels are maintained. When the water is taken off, ex- tensive mud flats are created. They're not too appealing to ducks but shorebirds find them irresistible.
