-Canvassers thanked by Eleanor Edwards Carol Graham A sincere thank you to all the canvassers and contributors who realized approximately $850 for the Canadian Cancer Society during the recent canvas in our community. The canvassers' were: Isabel Jacklin, Irene Vasey, Barbara Wilcox, Ilene Gillespie, Cathy Hancock, Janet Hamilton, Iris Han- more, Sadie Dupuis, and Evelyn Irish. Last Wednesday, Mrs. Roger Polkinginhorne, Mrs. Doug Barnard and Michelle of Owen Sound and Mrs. Kulich visited with Mrs. Sue Painter to celebrate some family birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Robinson were in Brooklin during the weekend to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allems and Leslie. Jill Robinson has returned home after an enjoyable irip to the western provinces. During the weekend Janie Robinson of Aurora and Brian and Michael Quinn also visited with the Robinsons. A community farewell party was held in the Vasey Church on Friday evening for Mrs. Mabel Russell who is moving to Elmvale. She was presented with a clock and cash and also a stick pin from the Vasey Women's Institute. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hanmore showed slides and Mr. Hanmore sang a solo. Sylvia Jones presented a selection at the piano. An enjoyable evening was had by _ those present. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Faint accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Russell to Oshawa on Wednesday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Graham Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown visited' on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Bell and family of Crossland. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Don McKnight of Cookstown and Mrs. Earl McKnight of Barrie visited with Mr. and Mrs. Owen Smitham. Vasey United Church Women's Report The Vasey U.C.W. met in the church on April 28 with a good attendance. The president Jane Smitham was in charge. During the business portion of the meeting it was noted thai the new sister U.C.W. was Grenfel, also that Winnie Faint is to compile a 20th an- niversary report. An invitation to all those who have served as presidents during the past 20 years to attend the President's tea in Stayner United in June. Irene Vasey of the Stewardship Committee was incharge of the program topic 'Taking us Back to Our Roots in U.C.W."', "What do we believe?", '"'Who is a member?", "Where does our duty lie in the Ongoing life of the church?", the con- clusion to the discussion was, we must know in what we believe and we must believe that what we do does make the difference. The next meeting of the Vasey U.C.W. will be at 1 p.m. in the church on May 26 when Dr. John Shewfelt will be the guest speaker. Vasey and District 4H Calf Club Report by Robert Graham The third meeting of the Vasey and District 4H Calf Club was held May 5 af the Vasey United Church. The meeting was opened with a tricky question roll call and then we moved into the business of the meeting. After the business we judged a class of first cut hay, official placings under the leadership of Rick Drinkell. Our guest speaker, Joe Rumney arrived and we listened intently to his in- formation on the health of replacement heifers from the time they are born to the time of their calvings. The speaker was thanked and the meeting was adjourned. Don't forget the next meeting June 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Allan Mosley's. The topic of the meeting is judging, so study and be ready.
