Last chance for the Mets This evening is the last chance for some young men hoping to make the Elmvale Mets of the Simcoe County Rural Fastball League to impress the coach and manager with their ability, as cuts begin tomorrow. The Mets first regular game will be in Midland on May 28. There were nine teams in the league last year. 65 out & about About 65 boys turned out last Monday evening at a soccer practice at Elmvale District High School. Elmvale soccer team executive members' will be meeting some time this week to make up teams. The next practice is next Monday. The Peewee baseball team still needs a coach. The Keith Rossel- coached squirts are getting organized. Joan Player is the coach of the Novice girls team. Early-season snag Brian Belcourt at first base during a Elmvale Sporting Goods baseball tryout for players hoping to make team. All teams are settling into either the Elmvale Mets of the Simcoe shape for the opening of regular County Rural Fastball League or the schedule play later this month. IVISS tries harder A combined Midget / Junior Midl- and Secondary School rugby squad slammed Barrie' Innisdale Secondary School 14-0 in Simcoe County league play last Thursday at MSS. It was the first season victory for MSS. Lloyd Pilon, Hilliard Clark and Chris Chenier each scored one try for Midland. Pilon also converted Clark's try. , Innisdale, which has a highly- regarded Senior squad, wasn't able to field both Midget and Junior teams this year so MSS agreed to in- Andy Marion, Bob Devine, Hilliard Clark, Dellan Jackson and Chris Chenier. "The forwards on both Midland teams showed their usual power," said coach John Nix. 'Each game the boys play brings out more improvement in travel to Cannington to face Brock Secondary School yesterday, but the game was cancelled. Both squads lost their first games against Barrie Central, and they'll try to get at least one more league game in to replace the can- celled Brock game terchange their two division squads each 15 minutes (normally, a game goes two 40- minute halves). After a slow start, the Midland teams began to develop some _ con- fidence in their running and carrying abilities and top-notch running More sports efforts were put in by o == 0 oY GRYPHON & Professional live theatre \ serving igs July 2-10 Giggle at NURSE JANE GOES TO HAWAII July 16 - 24 Catch Barbara Hamilton in CURIOUS SAVAGE July 30 - Aug. 7 Get caught up in THE ELEPHANT MAN Bi 095 BARBARA HAMILTON August 13-21 Be there as John Neville directs STEP DANCE an Ontario Premiere John Neville - Director August 27 - Sept. 4 Enjoy Catherine McKinnon singing her way through 1DO0,1DO Subscribe now and be with GRYPHON at the Georgian College Theatre in Barrie when the cur- Catherine "McKinnon their game.
