Screen school's portable The stream of eorrespondence bet- ween Midland Planning Board secretary Bryan MacKell and the Simcoe County Board of Education concerning the board's portable at Parkview School con- linues. The planning board this week instructed MacKell to request the school board to erect a screen, or place some vegetation, between the portable and the street. In a letter to the school board dated Sept. 17, 1981, MacKell in- formed the board that "numerous complaints" had been received by the town about the use of the building, and about its location. : On May 29, 1981, the town issued a building permit to allow a 24 foot by 32 foot portable building on the Park- view School property. The portable classroom is being used as a storage building for plumbing and other supplies used in the 18 public schools located in the school board's Area at In his report to the planning board, received last Tuesday by the board, Michael Chapman, the town's bylaw enforcement officer, said that the portable itself as a physical object did not violate any bylaws. However the fact that the materials stored in the building are used in schools outside of the town could be grounds under a town bylaw for legal action, Chapman reported. Chapman _ recomm- ended that the board speak to the municipality's solicitor if it was thinking of taking legal action. In late September in a letter to the planning board, the SCBE's assistant business superintendent infor- med the planning board that the portable is approximately the same colour as the school, that it is identical to the other portables at other schools, and that the school board would consider repainting the portable if the town wished. "However the cost of relocating a portable is substantial and_ this alternative would therefore be an ex- pensive one," the town was told.
