Summer's Trophies Atoms The Penetanguishene Summer's Trophies Atoms were always good for a surprise this season, and their final one came in their last season skirmish -- the Buffalo Atom Tournament, where they battled their way to the runners-up position. Atoms top 'em all Monica Hinrikus of Midland Secondary Schoo] scored a fourth- place overall finish at last week's Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls' gymnastics meet at York University. Hinrikus won both the balance beam and vault events to give her the fourth overall placing and a berth in the Georgian Bay Secon- Hinrikus advances dary School Athletic Association Champi- onships. Other MSS gymnastis earning berths in the GBSSA finals were Wendy Bowering, who placed third in wault, and Sheiri Price, who came up with a seventh- place finish in vaulting. In the recent GBSSA Zone competition in Orillia, Price finished second overall in the Junior division. Other Juniors faring well at the zone meet were Susan Carpenter, Susan Bell and Pam Wilkinson. Wendy Bowering scored a_ second-place Overall finish in the Intermediate division and Hinrikus was in top form in the Orillia meet to win a first, second and third place finish in three events of the tough Elite division. Huronia Pla} yers present "ARSENIC AND OLD LACE" by Joseph Kesselring Directed by Mary Williams Jesse Perrault scored seven times in three games to lead the Midland Bell Canada Major Atoms to a vic- tory in the recent Aurora Atom Hockey Tournament. The Midland Jaycees Major Bantams nipped Owen Sound 5-4 to win the Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League championship last Friday at Wasaga Beach Arena. The Jaycees powered into a 3-1 lead in the first period on goals by Joe DeCola, Steve Zeitel and Shawn Davy. Other top scorers for Midland were Greg Lalonde and John Brophy, with two each. David Duval, Sean Besi and John Richardson each tallied singles. Steven Duncan and Shawn Price split the goaltending duties. Perrault, Duncan and Lalonde each earned Most Valuable Player of the Game awards. The tournament was the final outing for the Bell The Bell Canada squad wound up the season with 43 wins, eight losses and three ties. They had 283 goals for, 93 against and their goaltenders came up with 10 shutouts.
