Following are some results of our members' efforts out on the road. The big win of the month went to Leighton Smith's rink with Sandra Brett, Mike Crawford and Nancy Deenan, who won the Winterama Bonspiel in Penetanguishene on Winterama weekend. They brought home trophies and money! Peter Watts' rink with Doreen McCurry, Tim Bruhn and myself were high one-game runners-up and won wine and liquor. Phyl Bremner took Julie Ranson, Marnie Powell and Kay Lapere over to Churchill (just south of Stroud) on Feb. 13. They placed second in the Ladies Invitational Bonspiel there. Meanwhile, Doreen Bray's rink with Charlotte Tully, Joan Barnett and Marnie Moffat won prizes at the Snowflake Bonspiel at the Barrie Curling Club. Dianne Patchell's rink curled in the S.0.L.C.A. Seniors Bonspiel, also at the Barrie Curling Club, this past weekend. Jean Wallace, Darlene Hughes and Audrey MacLoed filled out the rink. They won wicker baskets. I hear the food was scrumptious! June Walton's rink with Doreen Bray, Charlotte Tully and Fay Swales went to the annual Elmvale Beanpot Bonspiel last week. Elmvale won the pot and everyone had a delicious meal and good fun. Peter Watts and myself joined Teddy and Howard Robinson for the second year at the Highwayman Inn Bonspiel in Orillia last Saturday. We won two out of three games but didn't garner enough points to win a prize. Edie and Jim Clark won something at a mixed bonspiel somewhere a few weeks ago but Edie and Jim are never home and I couldn't get any more information on that! Competitive curling is also in full swing: The Ladies Intermediate District Playdowns, held in Midland two weeks ago was won by the Karen Brown rink from the Barrie Curling Club. They now go on to the Division Playdowns. The Business Girls District Trophy Playdowns, held here Feb. 20-22 was won by the rink from Gravenhurst. They, too, go on to the Division Playdowns. The Lynn Morton and Gwenn Milley rinks will have curled in the double-entry Division goes to print. These playdowns were held in Parry Sound on Tuesday, March 2. More news on this in Friday's paper -- good or otherwise! The C.S.L. Men's Open Bonspiel was held this past weekend at our club. Winner for the second year in a row was Bill Howard's rink with Bill's son Glen throwing skip rocks, Wayne Morrison second and Kim Hanley lead. Elmvale's Bob Story and his rink took the second event, Barry Acton's rink from Uxbridge won the third and John Scott's rink from Gravenhurst captured the fourth. Russ Howard and his rink were second runners-up in the first event. Russ lost out to his dad and brother by the final rock in the last end of the semi-finals!
