The point, say the A's is that they beat the Flyers and drew into a sixth-place tie with the Barrie squad at the bottom of the OHA Major' Intermediate Hockey League. The Flyers arrived with ten players plus ex- Athletics goaltender Dune Brownell. They then had to put up with more than 800 young A's Kids' Day guests and a group of Midland players who were un- cooperative enough to blast Brownell with 49 shots. The win was the ninth of the season for the A's, who still owe the Flyers One game in their squablle for the league's final playoff spot. Sunday's was a real team effort for Midland, with seven bifferent names collecting goals. Joe Butson, Gary Hansford, Doug McMann, Terry Spiker, Wayne Dixon, Paul Robillard and playing- coach Hugh Robertson were the local heroes. Craig Watson did the duty in the a's net, facing 39 shots. The a's collected 18 minutes in minors, the Flyers 10 minutes 'more when Terry Agnew was thrown out after some loud chatting with referee Don Stinson. A pleasant surprise for the A's came in the form of defenceman Terry King, on loan fr Om Ghee Penetanguishene Kings. King didn't notch a point, but, according to. manager Shawn Stewart, impressed coach Robertson with his poise. The A's hoped to obtain King for last night's makeup game in Midland against the Owen Sound Greys -- and wished they had him in Collingwood last Friday when they were mugged 9-4 by the Shipbuilders. The second-place Shipbuilders simply skated the a's right into the ice in that one, allowing only momentary lapses to provide for goals fro m Doug McMann, Butson, Dixon and Spiker. Midland goaltenders Paul Goodine and Watson faced 55 shots between them while their teammates fired RS 45 at the other end. The A's were assessed 25 minutes in penalties -- including a minor, a five-minute major anda game misconduct to Butson -- while the Shipbuilders picked up 23, also including five- minute and game- misconducts. MISS Jr.'s win third crown The Midland Secondary School Junior Girls volleyball team came away from last weekend's Hamilton Hillfield-Strathallen Volleyball Tournament with their third tourney title in four tries. The Midland squad defeated Toronto's Sir John A. MacDonald Juniors 15-13, 10-15, 15-8 to claim the title. In round-robin play, Midland dumped both MacDonald's Junior and Midget squads as well as host Hillfield-Strathallen -- all in straight sets. The victories boosted the squad's season match record to 25 wins, 2 losses. They previously won tournaments in Orillia and Midland. In their only other tourney appearance, they placed second in anevent in Barrie. Seniors close After a top-notch effort in round-robin play, the Midland Secondary School Senior Girls' volleyball team came up short to the host squad in semi-final action at last weekend's Barrie Central Redskins Volleyball Tour- nament. The MSS team won eight of ten games in round-robin play, splitting matches with only Toronto's Earl Haig Collegiate (Ontario finalists last year) and Central (Georgian Bay champs last year). 14" XL-100 EFR333W 399" SelectaVision 6-hour video cassette recorder with 14-day programm- ing and 3-function__, remote control. oa Picture Search 14-day advance programmer * 3-function remote control - includes channel change (TV or VCR), pause control and Picture Search functions * Electronic touch-button controls.
