by Jeanne Webb The Wyevale School library was pretty well packed on the evening of Jan. 19. It was Family Focus of the 80's night. A special film on the Canadian Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Children was presented, featuring Doctor Elliott Barker. Dr. Barker was also present to lead a good discussion on_ the matter. The Recreation Group is sponsoring three more nights of this. The next one, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m., in the school library, will feature three families and different approaches to child-rearing. The next Recreation Meeting will be in the United Church basement on Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. The Pine Ridge Women's Institute held their monthly meeting Jan. 21, at the home of Mrs. Alvin Cox, with 16 present. The Roll Call was answered by naming a country and telling of either an export or an import relating to that country. Mrs. Evelyn Braith- waite gave a paper on How We Are Polluting Our Environment. This was very interesting. There was also an en- joyable contest on the same subject. The Motto for the evening was To Know A Country Is To Under- stand It's People. The hospital visitors for the month are Doreen Grenier, Margaret Martin and Verna Nerpin. A tasty lunch was served by Mrs. Alvin Cox and Mrs. Leonard Hales. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Phyllis Benson's. We are pleased to learn that Mr. Ab Martinis home from the hospital. Day wants to know why so many going to convention Midland's Deputy- reeve Bev Day isn't happy Midland will be sending four representatives to the Ontario Good Roads Association Convention in Toronto, Feb. 22-24. Public Works Com- mittee chairman Alderman Ian Ross, Alderman Joseph Blake and Alderman Bob Jeffery are to join Commissioner of Works Percy -Ehler at the convention. Day wanted to know why so many people were going to Toronto when there was a push on to conserve tax dollars this year. Alderman Ross stated, he hadn't at- tended a convention since being elected to council and that was his reason for going. Alderman Jeffery said, "I'm brand new on CRTC reaches decision Decision 82-109 released in Ottawa on Jan. 18 by the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has approved an ap- plication by Maclean Hunter Cable TV ser- ving Midland, Penetanguishene and surrounding area to increase the monthly subscriber fee from $7.25 to $8.50. The new rates will become effective Feb. 1. Theft of machine A 10 horsepower snowblower has been stolen from a garage belonging to David Jolie, of McPhee Street, Port MeNicoll. The theft occurred between Jan. 20 and Jan. 21. this committee (public works) and I'd like to go for the information and knowledge you can get there."' Alderman Blake had no comment, nor did Commissioner of Works Ehler. It was coal _ to Newcastle night in Barrie at the Jan. 20 meeting of the Simcoe County Roman Catholie Separate School Board. For some con- siderable time the board has been seeking a capital allocation from the Ministry of Education to build a new school in Tot- tenham to relieve the mounting enrolment pressure on St. James School in Colgan. That pressure is expressed in_ five classrooms which need to be replaced, four portable classrooms, and concern about space for special education programmes. Now the board has received a recom- mendation from the Simcoe County Health Unit that current enrolment will necessitate an extension to the present tile bed at St. James School. Concern was expressed at another waste of money in the continuing The Family-Focus of the 80's: There are many indications that the 'Do Your Own Thing' theme of the 70's is giving way to an in- creased focus on the family. The Wyevale Recreation Group is pleased to present a series of four evening programmes on topics relevant to this current emphasis' on the Family. Programs will take place on _ alternate Tuesdays, at 8 p.m. in the Wyevale School Library. The first one was held yesterday. There was a half hour film - 'The Greatest Cruelty' - by the Midland Rotary Club, MacLean Hunter Cable T.V., and the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Dr. Elliott Barker, President of the C.S.P.C.C., was present to discuss his work in relation to the Family. Everyone is welcome. The Euchre players will be glad to note that their will be a Euchre in the School Library on Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. - sponsored by _ the Recreation Group. Mrs. Verna Nerpin is home after spending a beautiful week in Bermuda. She went with the Christian Discovery Group, that originated from the boar saga. The board approved development of plans for the extension to the tile bed amid suggestions that the project not be rushed just in case the Ministry of Education might come through with a capital allocation in the next month or so. Its concern about accommodation needs was also addressed by the Simcoe County Roman Catholic Separate School Board in a resolution to be presented at the annual meeting of two trustee associations to which the board belongs. As a result of the Jan. 20 board meeting, delegates at the annual meeting of the Ontario Separate School Trustees Association and L'Association francaise de Conseils scolaires de 1'Ontario will be asked to approve the following resolution: 'Whereas, even the growth needs of many boards are not being JOHN DEERE SNOWMOBILE \ Joun DEERE Page 10, Wednesday, January 27, 1982 Buy a 1980, 81 or 82 \ MARTIN'S "0 EQUIPMENT 33 Main St, Penetanguishene / -- 3 549-7203 VWV// meets Thornhill United Church, with the Leader - Gordon Hunter. Everyone enjoyed the two skits on Reading and_ the Charades Game, depicting life in Central Africa. We have just come through another Week- End Special storm. A week ago many people were stranded because of the suddeness of the Sunday storm. This past week-end, with so much of the light snow having fallen, people were a little more cautious, and stayed closer to home.
