The long-time Midland Planing Mills employee was best know for serving on the Board of Penetanguishene General Hospital for 12 years. . the maximum years one can serve under board policy. He also served as the hospital's chairman for seven of those 12 years and left his mark on PGH as a very caring board member. The late Raymond L'esperance had also been very active in the Knights of Columbus movement here in North Simcoe and had been a Fourth Degree Knight. It has been said: the man who says, "'It can't be done, is usually interrupted by someone doing it." The late Raymond L'esperance was a "'doer"' who always put other people first. . .because he cared. We shall miss the man. Encouraging news from Midland OPP MIDLAND detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police issued some good news last week. According to Staff-Sgt. William Boyd, the detachment's commander, fatal accidents were down last year in our OPP coverage area. The story was the same too for motor-vehicle accidents in 1981. That's encouraging news. Much of the credit goes to the OPP detachment here for operating more moving radar patrols. Motorists too should take a well-deserved bow for the manner in which they have been avoiding traffic accidents of any kind while motoring through this part of the province. Let's hope 1982's year-end statistics will be as encouraging for the Midland detachment. $50,000 has been raised to date... LAST WEEK, centre d'Activites francaises celebrated an important event. . .its eighth anniversary. The French Centre, located in the former Post Office building on Main Street in Penetanguishene has grown in popularity since its inception. Over the years it has offered a wide variety of programs and at present is involved in a major drive for funds. The centre has already raised more than $50,000 of the $130,000 it needs to give the place a new look. Wintario also plans to assist the centre by donating $49,000. As for the campaign itself, it won't end until at least $80,000 is raised from the general public at large. If you haven't already donated to this worthy cause, we hope you'll consider making one, no matter how large or small. The French Centre needs your help. . .and it needs it now.
