Weekend action The Elmvale Mets will be hosting their annual baseball tour- nament July 25 in Elmvale and according to organizers, ap- proximately 12 teams are expected to take part in the single day event. Those participating in the tournament will be vying for cash prizes of $200 for the cham- pionship winners, $100 for the runners-up and $50 for the second runners-up. The tournament will get underway Saturday morning at 9 a.m. when teams from Toronto, Oshawa, Barrie and Midland face local squads from Elmvale, Phelpston, Wyevale an Wyebridge. ; Draw for game times will be made early next week and will be carried in next week's paper. Huronia Calendar July 15 A representative of the McMichael Gallery of Kleinburg will give a lecture on Wed., July 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Midland Public Library. The Skies and You is an astronomy programme to be presented by John Hicks of the Royal Astronomical Soeiety for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Wasaga Beach on Fri., July 17 at 8 p.m. It will be held at Nancy Island Historic Site. Battle for first Vasey Twin Lakes and Hillsdale remain in a battle for top spot in the Simcoe Rural Fastball: League after Monday and Thursday action found them both on the winning side. The two teams are sitting in first place with 20 points apiece followed closely by Bellisle, Akerman tops A two-way battle for the top standing in the Penetang-Midland Ball Hockey League Senior Division exists between Gary Bellisle of Dupuis Groceteria and fellow 'team member Ken Akerman, both of whom have 36 points. Bellisle's tally was the result of 27 goals and nine assists while Akerman's was a total opposite, nine goals and 27 assists. Sitting in second spot are Mike Duval of S. Charlebois Haulage and Chris Wright of Cum- ming~ Nicholson who have 29 points . each followed by a three way tie for third between Joe Beausoliel of Stewarts Gulf, Keith Press of Dock Lunch and Kirk Swales of Cumming- Nicholson, all of whom have 27 points. The Vasey Royals are six points behind at 13 in fourth place while Elmvale is in fifth with 12 points and Wyebridge has 11 points. Perkinsfield sits in sixth place in the standings as of July 14 with a total of 10 points while Phelpston has 6 and Wyevale _ has managed but one single point. Monday action Action in the league last Monday saw top seated Vasey Twin Royals down Midland by a score of 4-1 while Vasey Royals tied with Phelpston at four-all. Hillsdale trounced Wyevale 12-6 Monday and Perkinsfield and Elmvale played to a 2-2 tie. Wyebridge had the benefit of a bye last week. The two Vasey squads met Thursday and Twin Lakes downed the Royals by a 5-1 margin. Hillsdale annihilated Phelpston with a 14-0 score while Elmvale soundly defeated Wyebridge 11-7. Midland beat Wyevale 4-1 and Perkinsfield received the bye that night.
