We'd like to hear from you in Songwriters contest Dennis Chartrand of Penetanguishene is the only local musician to advance to the finals of the Songwriters Contest held recently with taping sessions at MacLean Hunter Cable Television. Chartrand qualified for one of the top 10 finalists positions with his song, "Pour Mon Petit Gars" which translates to "For My Little Boy". He is; the vice- principal at LeCaron High School in Lafon- taine and he wrote the song at Christmas time when his little boy, Big honour for Amy Alain was five months old. Chartrand just found out about his qualifying Monday morning even though the top 10 were picked a week ago today. He will be going to Blue Mountain July 12 for the final competition when he will compete against the other finalists for top honours. Prizes in the com- petition are $600 for first prize, $300 for second prize, $150 for third prize and $50 for the next seven competitors. Doing the judging will be representatives of several recording companies so_ the songwriters get ex- posure and _ could possibly end up getting a recording contract. Altogether there were 70 entrants in the contest, 26 from this area with other local writers finishing in good position. Should it rain July 12, the songwriters' contest will go July 19. 4th Midland Cub and Scouts Ladies Auxiliary staged a successful book sale at Zellers on Saturday with proceeds to go towards sending local Scouts to a Jamboree in Calgary next month.
