Hurons gymnastics day camps starting July 1 by Don Lawrence The Hurons' Summer Gymnastics Day Camp will be operating this year again at Corpus Christi School in Penetanguishene and should be as successful as last year's. Part of the reason for the expected success is the return of Marni Ridout of Balm Beach, a physical education and french major at Western University. Ridout ran the program last year with the help of five gym- nasts, three of those returning this year. They are Belinda and Brenda Spencer of Lafontaine and Anne Claire Montgomery of Ottawa. Brenda is a student at Outstanding chaplain Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School, Belinda having just graduated from that centre of learning this year and she will be attending Georgian College in the fall. Two new additions to the summer programs will be Tammi Finlay and Tammy Therrien, both of Midland and students at Midland Secondary School. The program is a non- profit event, relying on registration fees and government = grants, their latest being a $9,700 grant from the Ministry of Employment and Immigration Canada. That grant will pay for salaries and ex- penses incurred during the program. The girls teaching the program underwent additional training this past weekend in the Gyro Exchange Program held at Corpus Christi with the visit of 17 gymnasts and two instructors in gym- nastics from Toronto. The Hurons' group will be travelling to Toronto in October for their part of the ex- change. In addition, the Hurons' girls will be attending a clinic this week in which they will also learn some basic first aid and improve on their teaching methods. There is a limit of 45 gymnasts in each of the two four week camps, the first being held June 29 until July 24 and the second running from July 27 until Aug. 21. There are still some openings in the morning session for the first camp but the afternoon session is full. There are, however, a lot of openings still for the second camp. p.m. until 4 p.m. Advanced gymnasts will take part in the morning sessions with beginners getting into action in the afternoon. Registration fee for the program is $10 and you can register by calling John Turner at 526-6007, Ken St. Amant at 526-3992 or Corpus Christi School at 549- 8381. The worth of the program is reflected in the performances of members of the Hurons Gymnastics Club who have taken the program Morning sessions run and improved their from 8:30 a.m. until 12 finishes throughout p.m. with afternoon their competitive sessions going from 1 season.
