TOTS eT nen Port McNicoll bantams take tournament play Port McNicoll ban- tums really played well in the recent bantum tournament held in Little Lake Park as they captured top honours by defeating Midland bantams 21-14 in the final game. Also taking part in the tournament were Wyevale, Lafontaine and Victoria Harbour. In round robin play, Midland blasted Lafontaine 12-1, Port MeNicoll edged out Wyevale 8-6, Lafontaine tripled the score on Victoria Harbour 15-5, Midland doubled up on Wyevale 8-4, Port MeNicoll obliterated Victoria Harbour 22-1 and Wyevale blanked Lafontaine 15-0. In the Wyevale- Lafontaine game, Jim Clause pitched a perfect game with one walk, that player being picked off at second base on a double play. Clause struck out 15 batters in that game. After the tournament there was a_ batting competition, the eventual winner being Jim Faragher of Midland with 31 points. It was also a Stayner rink under the name of Besse that won the Civitan Trophy Tour- nament earlier in the week, Joe Besse's rink winning that contest. Verona Besse was skip Saturday. She was joined by Mary Grant as vice-skip and Genevieve Sackfield as lead. The Besse rink won Saturday's competition with 45 points and a plus of two. A total of 24 bowlers took part in the event with four greens in play under clear skies with a gentle breeze blowing in off Little Lake. Ladies played three 12-end games and en- joyed refreshments between games as well as having a draw for prizes, run by Alzina Belfry and _ Jessie Kettle. High two-game winners for the day were Elva Vasey, skip; Margaret Stam Story, vice-skip and Vera Walker, lead with 39 points, that rink from Midland. Another rink from Midland also took the title of High One-Game Winners and they were Jeanne Harvey, skip, Jessie Kettle, vice-skip and Marguerite Parker, lead with 33 points. The success of the day goes largely in part to Bruce MacArthur and Ken Cowan, green- skeeper at Midland Lawn Bowling Club. Toros (Blues) tempting fate A change of names seemed to turn Lady Luck against the Blues of Penetang-Midland peewee ball hockey Monday night in Midland Centennial Arena as they were edged out 4-3 by the Stars. The Blues became the Toros through a name change Monday night and until then had boasted a one win, one loss and one tie record.
