Merritt received a certificate from the Royal Canadian Humane Association Monday evening at the town council meeting through Mayor Ron Bellisle. The other man who helped pull Victoria Harbour resident Martin Beausoleil out of Penetanguishene Bay on January 9, Walter Mroz, 21, has moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Merritt said. Merritt quietly allowed after the presentation that he thought his getting the recognition was "all right."' His mother, standing nearby, said that she first learned that her son was going to be presented with a certificate through a newspaper story. The Midland Point resident said that he has not seen Beausoleil since Jan 9. He and Mroz were on the ice in the vicinity of the town dock on foot when the front end loader Beausoleil was driving broke through the ice-covered bay. Merritt and Mroz were directing Beausoleil to clear a racetrack that was to be used during the Penetanguishene Winterama.
