Phelpston ladies celebrating good week with wins Action this week in Georgian Bay Ladies Softball League play has been fast and furious, Phelpston starting their week's play off with a game against Christian Island. The home diamond advantage didn't help Christian Island in this game as Phelpston downed them 30-13, Marlene Valender the winning pitcher. Phelpston and Christian Island were to have played Tuesday but that game was rained out and rescheduled for last night, the results coming too late for press time. Nancy Bell pitched a super game for the Pontiettes as did Laurie St. Amant for Branch 68, those two meeting in a regular pitchers duel. Bell also hit a two-run homer for the Pontiettes in that game. Penetanguishene G & C blasted Port McNicoll Wednesday 22-11, Sue Brock winning that No. 13 Sth Elmvale's locally sponsored Number 13 stockcar took part in the second leg of the Number Seven Cascar series at Barrie Speedway Saturday night, and a blown engine in the qualifying heat almost caused cancellation of the car from the main event. Pony League baseball flourishes despite rain Ed Lacroix knocked the lone home run for HOS. Team sweaters will be handed out at the next game scheduled for June 22. Although Monday's rain created a few puddles at Midland's Parkview School, it didn't dampen enthusiasm for baseball in the Pony League. Tricee Custom Welding won its first game of the season defeating Midland Buildall 15-9. Billy Leonard, Shawn Lalonde and Joel Heins each hit a home run to lead KIL to a 22-16 victory over Georgian Bay Real Estate. John Kraftscik led the Real Estate squad with two homers while Aaron Wozniak and Mike Ball each had one. Swick Bowman and Associates played Twin Lakes Sports to an exciting 11-11 tie. Home runs for Swick Bowman were tagged by Kevin Charlebois, Vicki McTague, and Albert Miller. Craig Kennedy hit the only homer for Twin Lakes, while Denise Greenwood scored the tying run in the bottom of the last inning. Shelley Scott was a standout at second base making two forced plays in one inning. The final game saw Garms Sunoco defeat Huronia Office Services 25-6.
