ed bl tne Me Mi ee Business has new owner by Eileen Hocken Sauve's Service Station, which has been in operation in Port MecNicoll since 1940, is now in the hands of a new owner, Bob LeClair. Leo Sauve has provided our com- munity with over 40 years' service and certainly deserves a rest from the garage business, although he claims he hasn't retired from the work force by any means. Bob LeClair, who also owns and _ operates LeClair Fuels on the outskirts of Port MeNicoll, took over his new business enterprise on Monday June 15. We wish him the best of luck! He plans on providing full service, staying open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Satur- days and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Ray Mathews of Port MeNicoll will be the mechanic for LeClair's Service Station. Mr. Turner, who has a job at LeClair Fuels will be dividing his time bet- ween the two places - working at the garage in the summer months and going back to delivering fuel. in the winter months. Bob worked in a service station in Toronto for eight years, so he has a pretty good idea of what to expect in the new business. Monday night's Euchre Party at the Port MeNicoll Legion, put on by the Library Board with the help of the Senior Citizens Club, was a success. Despite it being the hottest day we've had this year about 70 people showed up. There were 17 tables used. The high score winner was Millie Maheu with 78 points. The next highest score was 76, won by Margorie Copeland. The highest number of lone hands was won by Grace Vaughen and Iona Zabizewski tied with five apiece. Two booby prizes went to Gil Lemieux (33) and Yvonne Ward (41). There was a_ 50-50 draw. $10 went to Doris Robinson, $5 to Barb Watson and $5 to Miriam Belanger. Proceeds from that Euchre Party went towards the new library building the village plans to build. The Senior Citizans Club donated a $25 cheque. That brought the total amount made that night to a little over $150 . Besides the money, the Seniors donated their time, efforts and many small gifts on order to make the Euchre evening the success it was. We join the Library Board in expréssing sincere thanks to our Seniors for their generous con- tribution. A Parent-Son Banquet was held at the Legion last Wednesday for the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventu _rers. Attendance was ex- cellent, over 100 people. The pot-luck supper was the best yet. Special guests were Rev. Al Farthing and District Commissioner of South Georgian Bay, Ernie Latanville. Father Vincent Egan was away on vacation and couldn't make it. Ernie delivered quite a good talk with regards to Scouting in the district. indicated his pleasure with all his dealings with the Port MeNicoll group. The head table con- sisted of the First Port McNicoll Group Committee - Bill Nicholson, The Chairman: Dawn Vipond, Secretary Treasurer; Irene Roth, Telephone Committee; Fran Lerouz, Special Events Chairman. After _ introductions there were skits and singing by the four groups. Rev. Al Far- thing, at the request of the Cubs, participated in one of the skits. Everyone enjoyed the performance. The ventures presented awards of a humorous nature to various people there, much to the delight of the audience. The Venturers Advisor, Dr. Robert Besly, gave an inpromptu talk in regards to the efforts r Are your receivables piling up? clients. attention. At the conclusion of those various activities, several presentations were made. Mrs. Donna Miles, the Assistant Beaver Leader, received an -- ap- preciation plaque for her contribution to Beavering. Vivian Simpson would also have been presented with an ap- preciation plaque had she been able to attend the banquet. Of special note, Franz and Irene Roth received an appreciation plaque for their efforts to further scouting in Port MeNicoll. District Commissi- oner, Ernie Latanville, presented Dave Robertson with his five- year pin. Dave noted that Chuck Jackson was also due for his five- year pin. (Somebody was a little red in the face there.) Graham Burrage and Dean Miles shared the Top Scout Award which was presented' by Scouter Dave Robert- son. The Falcon Patrol received the award for Top Patrol. Akela Marvin Wright presented several awards. Three Salesmen Awards went to Dwayne Henna (sale of calenders), Steven Wright and David Vastone (sale of fer- tilizer). A Proficiency Award went to Steven Wright. All Around Cub of the year went to Stephen Roth. Mr. and Mrs. Franz Roth were also presented with a plaque thanking them for ther work in Cubs. Five boys received their pins. They will be going to Scouts in the fall. The boys were Kent Ehler, Frazer Nicholson, Mare McDavid, Lloyd Cameron and Randy Baker. Toby Dusome wasn't there to accept his pin. Scouting has had an exceptional year in Port MeNicoll. It could not have happened without the help of the Royal Canadian Legion, Reeve John Moreau, who is always ready to lend a helping hand, the Group Committee and most important of all, the Leaders who work directly with those boys. The year wound up in grand style, with some eagerly looking forward to the Canadian Jam- boree '81 which is to be held just © outside Calgary in the first two weeks of July. Eleven boys and two Leaders from Port MeNicoll will be going. In the South Georgian Bay Distrct itself, there will be an excess of 50 boys and Leaders attending the Jamboree. :Port McNicoll Port MeNicoll Bro- wnies and Girl Guides certainly seemed to enjoy their trip to Casa Loma and the Science Centre last Satiurday. The complete tour of Casa Loma covered about a mile and a half and up and down 370 stairs - a mere jog for those energetic girls. Something of special interest to the Brownies and Guides was the Girl Guide Room, a tribute to Lady Pellatt for her life-long interest in the Girl Guide movement... Wall cabinets in the room held dolls wearing the uniform of the Girl Guides of Canada since 1910. The change of female fashions over the years was of great in- terest to the girls. The girls arrived at the Science Centre around noon. After lunching in a cafeteria there, they spent almost four hours looking at or taking part in the many different exhibits in the building. The girls were well behaved' throughout both tours. The bus trip there and back was considerably louder and we must give thanks to our very patient bus driver for putting up with us. Port MecNicoll Recreation Board is putting on its first adult dance this year. It will take place at the Legion on Saturday June 20, beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets can still be purchased at the Lucky Dollar Store and Elsa's Cafe before the dance or you can pay at the door if you wish. Admission price is $10 per couple and this includes a buffet lunch. Entertainment will be supplied by the band "Harmony". It should a fun night for everyone, so do plan on attending.
