Dan 12-7 vote CBE paves way for new high school Trustees voted 12-7 in favour-of accepting the single bid to build a school for Ecole Secondaire Le Caron in Penetanguishene during Wednesday's meeting of the Simcoe County Board of Education in Barrie. Opposition to the project stemmed from a feeling among some trustees that there should be more than one bid, Penetanguishene trustee Alvin Gravelle said yesterday. Although 12 com- panies obtained the specifications for the high school, only one company, Eldale Structures of Guelph, entered a tender bid. Wednesday evening the board gave its permission for Eldale Structures to build a demountable building in Penetanguishene at a cost of $1,048,230. Ed Mills, assistant superintendent of business (plant) told the board that it would necessarily mean any difference in the number of tenders of the project were put out to tender a second time, Gravelle said. The board should have the working drawings for the school in its hand for approval in time for its next 'meeting, June 24, Gravelle said. After the working plans have been approved by the board, they must be forwarded to _ the Ministry of Education for its approval. Gravelle said the board expects that the Ministry will approve the plans without undue delay. Nov. 29 is the com- pletion date for the school. In other board business, the board accepted without debate a response from its director of education to a number of questions put to it about the proposed high school by a representative of the Concerned Citizens for Bilingual Unity, who addressed the board at its last previous meeting on May 27.
