CWL News and Views from meet The spring general meeting of the Northern Regional Catholic Women's League was held at St. Mary's Church, Barrie on May 6. The meeting began with mass con- celebrated by Father Fournier, archdiocesan spiritual director; Father Sauve of Uptergrove, regional Spiritual director and Father O'Malley of Barrie. Regional chairwoman Edith Binns called the meeting to _ order. Father Sauve opened with prayer, and Mary Phillips welcomed everyone to St. Mary's. Bonnie Young read the correspondence and the _ minutes were adopted. Maura O'Toole gave the Treasurer's report. During the roll call of parishes each new president was _in- troduced and report of the highlights of the year was given. Edith Binns _in- troduced the ar- chdiocesan executive and thanked her own group, spiritual directors, and others for their assistance during the last two years. She presented Bonnie Young, secretary, and Maura O'Toole, treasurer, with a gift and a rose in ap- preciation of their help. Sharon Chambers, education convenor, spoke on the successful speaking contest held and congratulated the winner, Marie Hannan, of Orillia. Elizabeth Colin, spiritual development convenor, reminded everyone of the Day of Recollection at St. Mary's Church in Victoria Harbour on May 20. Madeline resolution's convenor, mentioned the four resolutions to be presented to the con- vention and suggested studying them at our meetings. Margaret Carter, organizations convenor, sent her congratulations to Marg Whelan and her graduates' of the leadership course held in Barrie this year. Marg Whelan presented certificates and a one dollar refund to the graduates. Mary Kennedy of Alliston gave a short talk on "What the CWL means to me", and showed that. the course really was very ef- fective. Father Sauve asked members to spiritually adopt an unborn child in prayer for a year and hopefully save him from abortion. Loretto Casciato, archdiocesan president, congratulated churches Skelton, celebrating special anniversaries. She mentioned a conference held at St. Joseph's School in Toronto on June 6 for Separated and Divorced Crait-holice's'; an Ecumenical program will be held at the Exhibition at the chapel in the near future. Joan Hasting spoke on the 60th Anniversary of BUSTER CRABBE POOLS the CWL this year. The convention will be held on June 2 and 3. The celebrations will commence with mass at St. Michael's Cathedral by Cardinal Carter and past archdiocesan directors. The evening session will be held at the Westbury Hotel. The June 3 session will be held at the Royal York. The theme this year is "faith and the Family." A bus will be going down from Orillia. Father Fournier, archdiocesan director, gave greetings and thanks from Cardinal Carter for the work done by the women during the past year. He spoke on how we are members of a parish but also of a larger organization in the community and the country "through the CWL Project money was given to Sister Zita of St. Theresa's, Midland to help finance a child, Christian Island Mission, the Mission Way Program, and Association for the Physically Disabled. Bob Kerr, of the Elaine House, in Barrie, urged integration of _ the handicapped into meetings and to hold meetings in accessable buildings. Peggy Nastasiac presented Jean McCann with a special service pin for her work for many years with im- migration in Barrie and several other positions held.
