Rawson willing to help resolve annexation issue Although Reeve Charlie Rawson of Tay Township thinks Midland's plan to annex a part of Tiny Township "is foolish" the reeve said vesterday in a telephone interview he'd _ be willing to help "both sides in the matter' resolve their differences. The reeve said he had been telephoned by Mavor Moreland Lynn "'at 9:45 a.m. while we were meeting at the county building (yesterday)."'I think this matter could be resolved around the table. I told Moreland, Coldwater's annexation and Barrie-Innisfil's annexation (problems) have both been costly to their taxpayers since it is only taxpayers who really lose in such matiers."' The Tay Township reeve said he had been assured by Lynn that Midland has no in- tentions of annexing Tay Township lands. impact study planned Tav Township is to ask the Minister of Revenue to conduct an "Impact Study" on the actual tax ~ dollars effect if the township was to undertake a , reassessment program. At its last meeting, Tay Township council met with Assessment Commissioner Bruce Fraser who provided council with statistical information which indicated discepancies in the township's current assessments in each of its individual- ' categories. = Once the "Impact Study"' is completed, council can then decide whether it wants a new tax roll printed under the reassessment or continue with the frozen roll. In other township business, council agreed to set new water system(s) rates for three of its water areas: Midland Bay Woods, $100 per annum, Sunnvside, $80 per annum and Portage Park, $80 per annum. Rate increase were necessary because of ever increasing costs. Paul Bell addresses naturalists More than 60 people were present at the March meeting of the Midland-Penetang Field Naturalists Club to hear Paul Bell speak on 'Instrumental Insects, Sights, Sounds and Signals." During the summers of 1976 and 1977, Mr. Bell worked at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Carter as'a naturalist. He is presently in graduate studies at Erindale College of the University of Toronto to obtain his PH.D degree in entomology. He has also taken a forest technicians course at Algonquin College and is a com- petent biologist, and an able wildlife artist. Bell began his program by stating he had done a great deal of research on insect communication and to illustrate his talk showed pictures of insects in ponds, woods and rivers, as well as slides indicating how insect sounds which vary in tone and intensity are made. He nlayed tape recordings of some of these sounds. Insect language varies when fighting, when calling to one another, during courtship and when frightened, etc. If anvone is interested in learning more about insects they can find an excellent book entitled 'Insects of the Wild" at the Midland Librarv. : B.
