From left: Eddie ANNOUNCEMENTS Bantams lead quarter finals By: G. Allen The Sunday night play-off between Coldwater and Elmvale promised to have all the excitement of a deciding game, although both teams were aware that it was a third game ina best-of-five series. Sensing the im- portance of the game, a large crowd of spec- tators left for Coldwater to support the locals. Having scored five points in the previous encounter (four goals and an assist), it came as no surprise to Doug Kirton that when he moved toward the Coldwater end of the rink he seemed to be moving in a crowd. In spite of this he assisted Dave Bannerman's goal Perhaps it was _ un- fortunate for Coldwater that they concentrated on Kirton because Rodger Allen on the same line, scored from Steve Chalmers to send Elmvale into a two goal lead. Then, by mid game Coldwater's Leigh Brandon scored to bring Coldwater within one of Elmvale. As if some hidden hand turned on the scoring switch, Elmvale took over the remainder of the game. The final score was 9-2 for Elmvale. Doug Kirton got six points; Dave Ban- nerman, four goals and an assist; Wayne Allen, LAT '® ! four assists; Rodger Allen, two goals; Dan Clement, one goal and one assist; Steve Chalmers, two assists; Mike Hall, two assists; and Paul Steel, one goal. Equally as important as the firing of the big guns was the fierce defensive play of the small boys on the team who were determined not to give away any of the ground gained by the others. Any person who en- joys hockey could be proud of the persistence of players like Keith Norwood, Rob Connelly, Paul Bumstead, and Greg Miller. It is difficult for players whose role it is to prevent goals against to feel the same thrill in victory as the person stars. Jason Pender was a standout in net. and brings the crowd to its feet. However, without the dogged efforts of the This was indeed a troops in the trenches hand-shake game. there would be no glory Congratulations Ban- for the more visible tams. Junior Farmers meet No-Stars North Simcoe Junior Farmers will be cutting up the ice at Wasaga Stars Arena as the group meets the Barrie CKVR No-Stars in a fun game of hockey (or a reasonable fac- simile). Cost for admittance will be $2 per person and all proceeds will go to the March of Dimes.
