Thiscommittee will stay, RC board agrees It was agreed Wed- nesday night in Barrie to allow Simcoe County Roman Catholic Separate School Board's 'French Language Instructional Units Committee" to remain in place to further pursue its mandate. The decision was reached after a report of a Jan. 26 meeting of the group was presented to the RC board. Those present at the January meeting, aside from RC board mem- bers. were: Mile. C. Dubeau, Principal, Ecole Ste- Croix, Lafontaine; Mlle. T. Belcourt, Principal, SS Martyrs Canadiens, Perkinsfield; Mr. D. D'Aoust, Principal, Ecole St. Louis, Penetanguishene; Mr. G. Padfield, Principal, St. Monica's Barrie and Mr. J. Canning, Prin- cipal, St. Bernard's, Orillia. The meeting discussed the current state of health of each of the schools or units. Enrolment, facilities, materials, secretarial time. and program needs were covered in an open and productive discussion. Suggestions for the future deployment of French Language Instructional Units Grants were con- sidered. The committee will be in a better position as a result to make recommendations in that arena when present commitments on the staff front begin to stablizie in relation to enrolments, the report to the RC board this week neted. The committee was pleased to hear that the proposed arrangement to share the services of a French-speaking religion consultant is now in place. Sister Louise Madore is employed by the Metropolitan Toronto Separate School Board. Her services are shared with York Region R.C.S.S., Duggerin-Peel R.C.S.S. and our own board. The committee discussed accommo- dation needs in two units. The need for an additional portable classroom at St. Monica's has been discussed with the accommodation com- mittee and is included in that committee's report. The committee an- ticipates, as well, that, as Ecole St. Louis grows, its space needs will be offset by a decline in need on the part of the Simcoe County Board of Education in the school presently shared bet- ween the two boards. Principal D'Aoust provided a good un- derstanding of sharing school space in this way for the benefit of the committee. The committee was considerably heartened § by the vibrancy of the newly established unit located at St. Monica's School in Barrie. A kindergarten enrolment of 20 students augurs well for future growth. It was the recom- mendation of _ the committee that the unit be extended into a K-7 unit from its present K-6 effective September 1, 1981. es, Everybody's valentine Mrs. McCullough music instructor at Midland Secondary School was the sweetheart of the day Friday at MSS as the school held Carnation Day.
