There are at least 100 entrants in the Export "'A'"' Classified tournament in each of the Midland and Penetanguishene bowling alleys. The top two bowlers in each of the 10 classes will advance to the zone finals to be held March 15. This means that between Midland and Penetanguishene there will be 20 winners overall after this weeks series are compiled. The Midland Y.B.C. completed the Four Steps to Stardom Round last Saturday with the winners qualifying to advance to the zone finals. The winners were as follows: Paul Buttineau of the Garner's Sports team rolled a 346-843 triple. The Midland alley is now under new management with Bud Debow taking over the job as manager last Monday. Former owner Jim Paradiso is still living in the area and will continue to bow] with his teammates in the Wednesday Night Industrial League. Jim is to be commended for his hard work in getting the Youth Bowling Council and Midland- Penetanguishene 5 Pin Bowlers Association off the ground. We all wish him well in his future endeavors. Time running out to enter Winterama contest Winterama begins in two weeks. Some of the many contests being run in connection with the annual winter carnival will be closed to entries soon. 'The Beautiful Baby Contest, sponsored by Gignac's Children's Wear, will not receive pic- tures of children. who should be under three vears of age. after Feb. 20. Voting for the favourite picture will be cut off at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20. Another contest that closes Feb. 14 is the Win- dow Painting Contest. The Legion is giving prizes of $75, $50 and $25. Judging will be done Feb. 14. Winterama's Shaggiest Moustache Contest will be held Winterama Saturday in the dock area at 3 p.m. Three categories will be judged: shaggiest, best groomed, and most impressive. Advance registration can be telephoned to 549-9841. Awards for the best show sculpture will be given on Winterama Friday at noon. First prize is a dinner for the winning family at the Watergate Restaurant. The second and third prizes will be trophies. Riders wishing to beat the Commodore Hotel's mechanical bull and win either the $25 first prize or a t-shirt saying, I rode the Bull-Commodore Hotel. will enter the contest Winterama Saturday between noon and 1 a.m. . The big draw in the Spirit Spotter Contest will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Centre d'activites francaises. The Carnival Spirit will be out and aroufd Saturdays until Winterama. People spotted wearing a Winterama button, toque or other emblem, will be given a place in the draw. First prize is $25. Linda and Arlene's Health Food Centre is running a recipe contest. Two baskets of goodies will go Winterama Sunday to the person who enters the most nutritious recipe. The Towne Smoke and Gift Shop is giving away three prizes on Winterama Saturday at 5 p.m. ina free raffle draw. A photo contest can be entered at The Photo Box. The person who guesses the correct number of shoelaces in a container in Mailloux's Footsy Contest will win a footcare package. Winterama basketball tournament Eight teams will take part in the Ninth Annual Penetanguishene Banting Memorial in 1975 and 1976, Orillia in 1977. Banting Memorial Action for this year's competition will get under way at 9:30 a.m. again in 1978, Orillia District in 1979 and Base Borden last year. Winterama Senior Boys' Basketball Tournament and the last game will begin at around eight scheduled for Saturday at Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School. Teams from Penetanguishene, Midland, Barrie North, Parry Sound, Base Borden, Georgian Bay Secondary School, Eastview and Hunt- sville will participate in the event. Ringette girls blitzed The Elmvale and District Girls' Ringette team hosted a squad from Stayner last Saturday and came away from the con- frontation behind in a 10-3 score. It was a fun game for the girls though, especially the smaller ones and was a return match for both. Elmvale had previously met and defeated the Stayner group earlier in the month and downed them by a score of 13-5. p.m. Martin McNamara also scored for Dock Lunch in that game. Edgar also picked up another three points in assists while Larry Cowan got two assists. Single assists were received by Wayne Miller, Larry Langley and Bill Mundy. Hindson Marine's Ron Lalonde scored a pair of goals as his team downed B & J Gas Bar 5- 2 Ray Cote, Mike Dusome and Bob Dion all scored singles in that game. James Dupuis got three assists for Hind- son while Lalonde, Gary Buttineau, Marcel Vallee and Roger Dusome each got single assists. Peter Decourcy and John Bell scored singles for B & J Gas Bar with Terry Dahmer and Dave Parent getting assists. The win by Dock Lunch assures them of a first place finish with 28 points while Hindson Marine has clinched the second place finish with 22 points. B & J Gas Bar and Chalet Sports are third and fourth in the league with 13 and 10 points respectively but they each have two games left so it is possible for their positions to switch around. Hotel came so close Midland Commodore Hotel Intermediate Men's Basketball Team played a disappointing game Wednesday night in Midland Secondary School's triple gym as they lost a close game to Queen's Hotel from Barrie 101-94 in over- time. Midland were leading 84-82 nearing the end of regulation play but Queen's Hotel dropped the tying basket in with the buzzer sounding. Queen's Hotel out- played Midland in the overtime play and came up with the win. Chester Graham shared top scorer with Marty McCrone of Queen's Hotel with 37 points each while Jeff Attwood was _ next highest with 15 points. Mike Berdan scored 10 points for Midland.
