Gervais The Georgian Club Senior Citizens met for their monthly meeting on Jan. 8 ink 'the Recreation Room of the Royal Canadian Legion, with a good attendance. The President Mr. Frank Murphy extended greetings to all in opening the business meeting. The minutes were read by Mrs. M. Gervais in the absence of Mrs. Mary Earle, secretary and approved. Mr. Louis Tremblay asked that Mr. Murphy's name be added to those who had worked for the recreation club at St. John's Church Hall as he had made the Dart Board. Darts, Suf- fleboard and Carpet Bowling are enjoyed every Monday af- ternoon starting at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Murphy asked that as many as possible take advantage of this social afternoon as a lot of work had been done to make it possible. Mrs. Lillyian Reed spoke on the Craft work and said a quilt had been donated to be raffled. Tickets to be 50 cents each or three for $1. Quilt to be raffled in the spring. Treasurer Mrs. H. Gatehouse reported the finances and Mrs. Hilda Savage reported on finances for bus trips and taxis. Correspon- dence was read by Mr. Murphy and reports were given by Mrs. Grace Anderson who is relieving Mrs. Mabel Despin on the Social Committee; Mrs. Delia Murphy on the euchre games. fe A motion was passed and carried that part of the euchre money should go to the free bus trip finances. Mrs. M. Gervais reported she had requested the Dominion Store Tape Plan secretary to pay for the Autoclave for the Medical Centre out of the balance we had there. A motion was carried that the Executive decide about the dinner for the Christmas Party next vear. A motion was also carried that a letter of thanks be sent to the Craft group for the crocheted corsages evervone was given at the Christmas Party. Mrs. Grace Anderson was appointed to look after overnight bus trips as Mrs. Savage just like to look after day trips. Mrs. Anderson spoke of a 5-day bus trip to Scott's Oquaga Lake House at Deposit, New York State in June and asked if anyone was interested to get in touch with her. Mr. Murphy spoke of a trip to the new Canadian Disney World near King City. He heard that in June there would be a special price for Senior Citizens Week when Senior Citizens' fees would be $7. Mr. Murphy asked if this would be a good place for our free bus trip and everyone agreed unanimously. Each would pay their own admission fee. Mr. Murphy also said the Club members were invited toa euchre party at Port MecNicoll Senior Citizens Club at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20. Discussion took place regarding the BonHomme_ Carnaval on Feb. 6,7,8. Used paperback books and touch and take table were to be sold by Mrs. Grace Anderson and members were asked to bring canned goods etc. for a basket of groceries to be raffled. Following adjournment euchre was played with the winners being Mrs. Winnie Pypher, Mrs. Grace Anderson, Mr. George Latondress, Mr. Jos. Cormier. Lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. Very deep sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Prentice and W./. meet shelved by Liz and John Dennis Sickness and minus 25 degree temperatures combined to try and force the cancellation of the Wvebridge Women's Institute monthly meeting last Monday, Jan. 13, however seven members travelled the cold and congregated at the home of Mrs. Merza McConnell in Midland. Mrs. Ray Tuck was the guest speaker and her topic was resolutions concerning world wide problems and the Institutes' role is solving them. A disappointingly sparce turnout was experienced last Tuesday at the Wyebridge Community Centre's weekly Blighty Bingo. It is hoped that future attendance will be somewhat more encouraging. Bingo goes every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Wyebridge Hall Board of Directors will take place next Wed- nesday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the community Centre. The public is more than welcome to attend and to join in the many items of discussion that usually comprise these meetings. If you have an opinion concerning the Wyebridge Hall and Community Centre, come out and be heard. Birthday wishes are extended to David Reynolds at this time. David, son of Doug and Sandy Reynolds, and older brother of Danny, celebrated his third birthday yesterday. The First Wyebridge Cubs and Beavers held their weekly meeting last Thursday evening. The First Wyebridge family in the death by accident of their son Ross Prentice. Mrs. Ted Walker is visiting her husband Chief Engineer Ted Walker on the SS J.O. MacKellor which is wintering in Montreal. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Russell of Alliston visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jarman last week. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Evans were in Orillia on Friday to attend the funeral of the former's cousin Mr. Albert - Evans. On Jan. 13 St. John's United Church Women met in the Lower Hall for their monthly meeting. President Mrs. Vera Keetch welcomed 24 members. The devotional period was led by Mrs. Mary Jarman and Mrs. Lloyd Dunlop and the Groupette. The scrip- ture lesson was read by Mrs. June Walker and others taking part were Mrs. Margaret Dunlop, Mrs. Rose Evans, Mrs. 'Laura Belfry and Mrs. Laura Carlton. The theme of the service was Reaching Out. Mrs. Jarman ex- plained about' the locality of the place in Southern Africa where Miss Cheryl Wood of Ebenezer had been teaching for the past two years, and in- teresting things about it. Miss Wood was giving a talk and showing pic- tures in Ebenezer on Friday evening and plans were made for as many as possible to attend. The service began and ended with hymns accompanied by Mrs. Jarman on her auto harp. The _ business meeting opened with the appointing of Mrs. Jean Howe as secretary for the balance of the year. A motion was carried that the February meeting be held on Feb. 3 as the annual UCW Birthday and Valentine Tea would be held on Friday, Feb. 13 in the Church Hall. The roll call word for February will be Heart. Minutes of the previous meeting and roll call was read by Mrs. Howe and the treasurer's report by Mrs. Elva Brown, Mrs. Lorraine MacKenzie reported correspondence sent and received. Gifts were delivered to shut-ins by Mrs. Win Pypher. Mrs. Violet Lidstone gave a short talk on Steward- ship. Mrs. Rose Vans reported 27 house calls and 35 hospital calls had been made during the month. On Jan. 29 St. John's annual meeting will be held in the Church Hall beginning with a Pot Luck Supper at 6 p.m. Mrs. Gladys Todd consented to convene the annual Valentine Tea on Feb. 13. Mrs. Margaret Tremblay asked for help with the. BonHomme Luncheon held in the Church Hall on Feb. 7. The meeting was closed with the Mispah Benediction followed by a_ social hour with lunch served by the Supply and Outreach Groupette. Several members of St. John's Church were at Ebenezer on Friday evening to attend the pictures and talk by _Miss Cheryl Wood who returned in December after teaching in Southern Africa for two vears. Wyebridge news Cubs honoured a few of their boys in a badge presentation. Steven Scott received his black star; Robby Turner received his swimmers badge and Fred Booth was awarded his collectors badge and handymans badge which in turn allowed him to receive the coveted bronze chain. Yesterday was a big day for Gary Preston as he celebrated his, quote, "twenty-first'"', unquote, birthday. Many happy returns Gary. Although we're certain that he would have liked to return home for a visit under better circumstances, Bruce Guthrie has been staying with mom and dad. Hazel and Merideth, for the last- couple of weeks. Bruce recently suf- fered a _ separated shoulder while playing hockey for his team, the Saginaw Gears. of Saginau Michigan. Bruce plays defence for the Gears and has chalked up 25 points in the 1980-81 season. Bruce heads back to Saginaw, Monday to undergo therapy for his shoulder. Skating party enjoyed by drivers F. Craig Annual Vestry Meeting of St. John's Anglican Church will be held on Thurs., Jan. 22 in the Sunday School room at 8 p.m. The Parish Vestry will also be held in St. John's on Monday, Jan. 26. Barb and Floyd Sinton hosted their annual skating party for bus drivers and_ their families at Oro Arena on Friday evening, Jan. 9. Sports, races, broom- ball. and _ pleasure skating were enjoyed on the ice while euchre was played by the non- skaters. Craighurst friends will be glad to know hat Mrs. Dave Summers is home from hospital having made _ good progress after suffering a broken hip. Mrs. Lillian Eadie of Toronto visited Mr. and Mrs. George Kirton on Sunday. The special occasion being Joy's birthday. We were sorry to lose Maurice Readman from our community.
