Doug Lewis, M.P. for Simcoe North, will be travelling to the Town of San Gudo, Alberta, which is located in the Right Honourable Joe Clark's riding of Yellowhead. Lewis will be participating this week ina public forum at the San Gudo High School on the question of western separatism. In a recent vote within the school, 45 percent of the students voted in favour of western separatism. "That kind of deep dissatisfaction with Alberta's place within Canada is deeply disturbing to both my party and myself," stated Lewis. "We feel that is is essential to try to stem that separatist tide. We must understand the western point of view and maintain a two way flow of communication." "Tt is not enough', said Lewis, 'to just go to Calgary and Edmonton, we feel that we must go to people in the smaller places as well. We are doing that. For example, David Crombie is addressing groups in the Alberta riding of Vegreville this weekend"'. San Gudo is 80 miles northwest of Edmonton. Meanwhile Lewis said this week, "Abnormally high interest rates continue to affect Canadians faced with renewing their mortgages in 1981." "Tn addition, they affect the plans of any apartment builder who is contemplating a project which would relieve the tight rental vacancy situation," he added. "The Progressive Conservative Party has constantly called for action by the government which would result in assistance to homeowners and tenants. We are extremely disappointed that the government continues to refuse to take action"'. Ue OS ee ee me oe SS eee = SEO ha Feds to the rescue s Qaes «a.
