Huronia Players to present 'The Red Shoes' Christmas may be a busy time for adults but for children it is a time for magic. No one un- derstood the wonders of magic better than author Hans Christian Andersen. Huronia Players, under the direction of Janet French of Orr Lake. will present the famous story '"'The Red Shoes'"' at Sacred Heart School auditorium in Midland on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. with three performances on Saturday, Dec. 13 beginning at 1 p.m., 3 p.m, and 7 p.m. Af ffi fruft SaaS A Well known Huronia Players performer May Williams has been cast in the lead role as Renata, an un- scrupulous gypsy who persuades a cheerful young orphan to accept the magic shoes. Karen the desperate dancer is played by Cindy Kelly who is best recognized for her role as Louise in Huronia Players presentation of Gypsv last spring. Jemmo, a little mute clown. is Renata's assistant who takes pity on Karen and helps Nels. the cobbler's apprentice, rescue the poor orphan. Trudy Duckworth shows the many faces of Jemmo while Larry Piitz performs the part of Nels. Adelle Tinney of Elmvale is a newcomer to Huronia Players and has been cast to play the part of Karen's long lost Grandmother The Burgomaster, a dignified public official from the small Danish town in which the story takes place will be played by Jack Scott of Midland. The part calls for a portly man with a heart of gold and a sense of humour. Mr. Scott has proven he has all of these qualities and more in his many past per- formances with Huronia Players. With the help of Jemmo, Nels and the Burgomaster, Karen is rescued from_ the wicked Renata and is reunited at last with her devoted grandmother. "The Red Shoes," a special play for children is sure to make the magic of Christmas 1980 very memorable thanks to Huronia Players.
