Coldwater Santa coming to town by E. Lorraine Orr Santa Claus. will arrive in Coldwater on Saturday, Dec. 6. The parade, sponsored by the Coldwater Lions Club. will begin at a NEW TIME - 11 a.m. sharp, leaving from the Coldwater Lumber yard and finishing at the Community Centre where Santa will greet the youngsters. All groups in the area 'are invited to enter a float in the parade. Prizes are to be awarded for the top three floats. Further information may be obtained by contacting Jim Hunter, 686-7802. Queen for a Day will be one of the prizes offered for the Santa Claus parade Queen, who will be chosen by the shoppers in Cold- water. Pictures of the girls who have entered the competition will be displayed in the glass case in the front of the Mini Theatre on the main street. Persons shopping in the various stores may vote for their favorite girl by writing her name on their sales slip and depositing it in the ballot boxes. Voting will take place from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1 - The ballots will then be counted by members of the Coldwater Businessmen's Asso- ciation who are spon- soring the event. The winner will ride in the parade in a convertible and will receive a hairdo and $25. (Bill and Hazel) Withall observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Friends and relatives from far and near gathered at the L.O.L. Community Hall Sunday afternoon to visit and wish them well. Bill and Hazel have been long-time residents of the com- munity. Bill operated the grist mill on the Wye River for many years, then built a house on the fifth concession where he and his wife retired. Among the many who attended the an- niversary party were a number of people from "the" Sunshine Club of Elmvyale, where Bill had acted as president. A group of singers consisting of a grand- daughter and _ friends entertained the people. These girls have been singing together since Sunday-se- hool days. The Com- munity presented the couple with a money- tree. This was unique in Wyevale news that it was a real live plant. Let's hope that it keeps on bearing! A very impressive service took place in the Wvevale Unifed Church Centre on Sunday, Nov. 16. This was in con- nection with the regular Sunday morning Worship. A parade of the first Wyevale Beavers, Cubs, Guides and Scouts opened the service. The new members of the ist Wyevale Scout Group were installed by Rev. John Locke. They were as follows: Steve Ogden (absent), Marilyn Bumstead, Carol and Rick Bywater, Bruce Henley (absent), and Russ Fleming (absent). District Commissioner Ernie Latanville, Assistant District Commissioner Bill Nutbrown, and President of District Council, Ted Roberts, assisted Rev. John Locke with vestiture the in- of new leaders; Beavers - Rosemary Houston; "Cubs - Doug Phillips and Scouts - Glen Bumstead and Grover Amos. Appreciation of all Group Committee Members and Leaders was shown. Mrs. Katie Austin provided special music. A tasty lunch provided by the UCW followed. Marion and Richard Didsworth and children, Cara and Philip, of Willowdale, visited with Marion's parents, Kay , and Al Brand. A French Certificate of Merit is awarded everv two weeks to the students of Coldwater and Medonte East Public Schools. This award is for a student from each class who demonstrates either exceptional improve- ment. effort, par- ticipation or over-all excellence in French language instruction. Recent recipients were: Coldwater School - Grade 6: Brian Tordiff and Tina Perryman; Grade 7: Nicola Tofts and John Coombs; Grade 8: Patrick Romat and Tracey Biggs. The Sunday evening messages of Pastor Hubert Schwartz, giving Light on Family Living are proving' very beneficial to all who attend. There are still two messages in the series. The Coldwater Horticultural Society will be entering a float in the Lions Club Santa Claus parade for the first time. This was decided by the directors at a recent meeting in response to an invitation extended by the members of the Lions Club. Plans were finalized for the Christmas party, to be held on Thursday, Nov. 20 (tomorrow). Members have been advised of the food needed for the pot-luck dinner and of the $1 gift for the Christmas trees. An interesting program is planned with guest speaker Mrs. Alice Cockburn demonstr- ating the art of making corn husk Christmas wreaths and dolls. The election of of- ficers is to take place in January, 1981 as per the Ontario Horticultural Act. Retirement means travel for Joe Prior of John Street in Cold- water. Joe was honored last week at a stag party given for him by his fellow workers from the Brewers' Retail Stores in Barrie and Cold- water. He was retiring after 10 vears of service beginning when the liquor and beer was a combined store on Main Street South. When the Brewers' Retail opened its own. store' on Sturgeon Bay Road, Joe moved to the Barrie outlet where he remained for seven years. Joe is also retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant after 20 years of service.
