Blue wins by John Wood Bruce Johnson Janice Parnell HCES held a volleyball tournament November 12 at the HCES gym. Six teams were made up from the students who had participated in the box social on Halloween Day. The winning house was blue. The winning team was made up of Christine French, Paul Bumstead, Scott Dingwall, Kelly McGrath, Jeff Conn, James Murden, Steven Croll. Kim Ayotte, Richard Ververs, Anna Chapman, Lisa Milligan and Dana McNichol. They will all receive medals. Team 3 played Team 2 after regular play to break the tie. Special thanks to our High School student referees, Heather Day, Danny Clement, Colleen Storev, Rodger Allen, Wavne Allen, Paul Steele, Debbie MeNichol and Heather Guthrie. Burkevale School from Penetang is going to play our school November 26 from 12 to 2:30 p.m. The Elmvale HCES boys' team will plav the Burkevale boys. The Elmvale Girls B team will play the Burkevale girls. The winning school will receive the Challenge Trophy. The trophv has been won by Elmvale in 1969, 1970 and 1979. Mr. Lendi, a visitor from Switzerland showed all students a film about his country November 14. On November 19 the Health Unit will test students born in 1967 and 1969 for scoliosis, which is curvature of the spine. Mr. John Bray, an English consultant, is coming here tonight, Nov. 19 to talk with teachers regarding new methods of teaching English. Pupils have a holiday tomorrow and Friday, but teachers have to work at teacher workshops in Barrie. Mrs. Barrett's class is studving Voyageur 1 for space studies. Mrs. Baker's students are learning to do multiplication and division. by Tammy Hocken On Thursday, November 13 Tammy Hocken and Julie Ellery went to a Grade 7 "No Smoking'"' workshop. This workshop was put on bv the Georgian Bay Lung Association. Our host for the day was Mrs. Betty Earle. We talked about what smoking can do to your lungs and what can be done to lower the number of smokers. This program was from 9:15a.m., - 2:45 p.m. The Association also sup- plied lunch for the 30 grade 7 students who attended. Dr. Martin and Mrs. Grier came to talk to this group about their 2xperiences. All the students were amazed by the pictures, films, and information about smoking.
