---------- OR eee Election 30 Platform eas tea aa 'Ineed your support to become mayor of Midland': Jack Gerow Two vears ago when I was elected as Alder- man in Ward 4 I said, "We had problems in Midland and as electors I need your help."' We still have problems in Midland and again I need your help. T want to be mayor of Midland. IT have Midland's best interests al heart. I have lived in Midland mv whole life, except for four and one-half vears while in the Canadian Navy during World War II. And that is an ex- perience that cannot be obtained in college. At this time of year I would like to add that I hope vour sons and daughters never have to receive military training. Prav that they can plan their futures without the threat of war. In December of 1945 I joined the Canada Life Assurance Co. and I have been their representative since that time, and that is in an industry where the agencv sales force probably has a_ 60 percent turnover. To be a survivor in this business you have to plan, work hard and understand people, you must have empathy. In 1954 I began a four- year extension course from the University of Toronto and_in 1958 I obtained my C.L.U. degree. Charter Member T am ae_e charter member of Midland Javcees and a past president. I. was president of Simcoe-Muskoka Life Underwriters Associ- ation in 1967. When I am elected mavor, I will work hard to efficiently and wisely distribute your tax dollars. With the increased numbers and quality on council and our ex- perienced and efficient municipal employees I know that the next two years will be great years for this com- munity. We have an industrial mall of which we can be proud. with credit going to our previous council. We have to broaden our industrial base-we cannot as a community stand still-we have to move ahead. To stand still is to fall behind. To attract new enterprises and create new jobs there has to be planning-strategic planning for the future. We should be selec- tive-search out related industries in cooperation with our local industrialists. We cannot leave these responsibilities to the Chamber of Commerce and Council. as citizens 'My Canada' road show heading to Scarborough An exhibit of Canadian landscapes by in- ternationally famous photographer Budd Watson of Midland will be at the Scarborough Civic Centre for the month of November. The show will feature selected landscapes from Watson's "My Canada" portfolio. On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Budd will present '"My Canada' at the Scarborough Civic Centre Meeting Hall at 7:45 p.m. The lecture and slide presentation will be held in cooperation with the Scarborough Camera Clubs N.A.P.A. and C.P.A.C. Budd has given lectures and seminars for the Toronto School of Photography, the Professional Photographers of Canada, the New York State Professional Photographers, and the Rochester Institute of Photographic Arts. In 1975 the Federation Internationale de la Photographique Art in Berne, Switzerland upgraded Budd's title from "Artiste" (A.F.I.A.P.) to "Excellence" (E.F.1.A.P.).
