--- Election '80 Platform Robert Jeffery wants more recreational programming Thirty-one-year-old Robert Jeffery of Midland is making a first-time bid for the position of alderman for Ward 2 Midland. Jeffery would like to see taxes held in line and feels that in order to accomodate this, ex- penditures must be held down and more small and medium _§ sized businesses be enticed to locate here. More business ven- tures would not only increase tax revenues to the municipal coffers, but at the same time relieve and help stabilize the unem- ployment problem we have at present. Lack of recreation facilities operated by the municipality, of- fering programs to the residents in general is another area Jeffery wishes to improve. "Parks at present offer no structured programmes during the summer months for residents and although we have a facility capable of offering various' recreation programmes to the public, it seems it sits Ballots ready and waiting in office The village of Elm- vale Clerk's office is ready and waiting for polling day, with ballots printed and set to be marked Nov. 10. Oct. 21, ballots con- taining the names of those seeking election in Elmvale were ordered and the finished product was delivered six days later. These will be counted and handed over to the Deputy Returning Officers, to be recounted. All tickets must then be accounted for after voting is completed. Contingencies have been made for all types of voters. For the routine ballot- caster, the regulation locked box will be provided to hold the names of those chosen by each individual. For those inadvertantly who mark their ticket wrong, change their minds at the last minute, or simply have the pencil slip unexpectantly, all is not lost. The voter can merely return the spoiled ballot to the returning officer for a replacement. The spoiled ballot is then retained so as not to upset the final count. And for those people who upon entering the polling booth, decide they cannot make up their minds, or just don't wish to vote for any of. the candidates listed. a special con- tainer is provided. The unmarked ballot is placed in there, so as not to be used by any other voter, and also retained for the final accounting. Polls will open 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10 and will remain open for voting until 9 p.m. that evening, Re-elect as Mayor MORELAND A. The level of van- dalism, we now have in our town, is, as Jeffery sees it. a direct result of the lack of innovative recreation and parks programming. If programming were instituted it would offer alternatives to the present situation. "The town council must work and show it is working for all residents of Midland in every way possible including the offering of free-time alternatives." Jeffery is married to S heirm y.--J a nie McIntaggart and they have a family and home in Ward 2. ~ Jeffery states that he is going through and meeting with the same frustrations and problems that most Midlanders do. "Tf seems we are the majority in town but we have little or no con- scious representation. I can only hope that Midlanders in general feel as strong as I dore: the issues in my plat- form and give me the support I require to represent them in Council. I can't promise miracles, but I can promise to fight for those issues I have outlined and to keep the Midlanders of Ward 2 informed as to the h appenings, honestly and in terms which they can relate!"
