Election '80 Platform _ Ron Bellisle feels past experience would make him a good mayor for town " I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support in the upcoming election on Nov. 10. As you are aware I am seeking the position of mayor in Penetanguishene. I have involved in municipal politics for Gil Robillard wants . steady | growth | fortown A steady progressive growth for: Penetanguishene for the benefit of its citizens, is probably my main reason for letting my name stand for re-election to the mayor's seat on council. It is hard to believe that 25 years have already gone by with my involvement in municipal politics on various boards, commissions and town council. The last 14 years, when I first became mayor, have _ particularly been Satisfying, because of the great many changes that we have all witnessed in our town that have been benefited every one in a variety of ways. nnn Raaihggne gaa e caer * . os Z regs Fourteen years ago, there seemed to be so manv 'missing links" to getting the town going. It was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. I always felt that Mavor Jerome Gignac, before his untimely death. had started to change the direction of the town. He recognized the need for a sewage treatment plant as being one of the first priorities. Curiously enough, the provision of adequate sewage facilities was also one of the con- ditions in getting our "secondary school built in Penetanguishene - it was to be built in Midland and everyone would be bussed over there. Mayor In 1966, I became Mi AC ve-02 Tr of Penetanguishene, and along with a_ very aggressive council (and a young clerk with the name of Y.A. Gagne), we embarked on a number of much needed programs, such as -- An industrial park and housing developments (it was the chicken and egg dilemma; which one should we do first) -- the need for low rental housing for senior citizens and low income families -- New municipal. offices (Remember the. old one? a few extra people new buildings for fire and police -- and very important, the need for an official plan, because without one, the municipality would have never been able to applv (successfully) for many of the various government programs that eventually came along..(such as NIP and RRAP. etc.) Concern Other areas of con- cern were also acted upon. such as_ the waterfront _park...the expansion of our recreation services wherenew attitudes and goals were developed...The Water and Light Commission prepared for the many new development- s...More new lighting everv year...and very important, the acquiring of good resource people, both voluntary and professional, to work along with an ad- ministrative staff that is second to none. Today, there are still a number of items that will need Action. It will be necessary to actively promote a steadv Industrial Growth and Employment __ opport- unities. Every effort should be made to pursue programs for the development of ap- prenticeship and skill training courses...as this helps to attract industry. Our tourism potential must be developed to its fullest. The natural resources of our bay and its waterfront should be the beginning of a new era in marina, motel-hotel use that should greatly add to the commercial development of our town...which in turn develops more _ job opportunities. On the November 10th. 1980, I am asking the voters of Penetanguishene _ to consider my record and years of experience and have confidence enough to re-elect me as their mavor. I, in turn, will make everv effort, to develop those Programs that will ensure the "steady, progressive growth of Penetanguishene"'. L- Time to remember At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918, the war to end all wars stopped. On Nov. 11, citizens of Penetanguishene will join people since across the nation in remembering the men, women and children who died in that war and the three major wars Election '80 Platform Ray Baker wants Penetanguishene to be 'friendly town' again During '76 - '80 I've been chairman of police. fire, parks, and public works, various committees, plus Penetanguishene's seven year member of the area planning board. This newspaper, CK- MP. channels 12 and 13 TV have made you aware of my position on the issues before council. From '73 onwards my promise has been "T'll work hard and keep you informed"' as part of your elected team. The same promise hold true todav. THE GOOD NEWS The town is good financially, its' depts. Bazaar and luncheon planned b y church Tomorrow is the day First Presbyterian Church, Penetangui- shene. will be holding their Bazaar and bake table. The bazaar will feature dozens of hand crafted items such as those displayed in the window of the Citizen office the past week. In addition to the bazaar which runs from 7-9 p.m. tomorrow evening and 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, there is the echurch's '*'Souper Luncheon"', which takes place on Friday. From all accounts last year's luncheon was a smash success, so_ if you're interested in a delicious luncheon and some good company, hurrv and get a ticket. Tickets are two dollars and are sold in advance only. For in- formation or tickets, call 526-7780. are running smoothly, plans are in hand for north-end development, a waterfront hotel] / motel, industrial growth and a five year goal on hard core ser- vices (drains sewers) to complete the town. Housing starts are up, the town looks good with upgraded roads and homes. We need to keep pushing for industry and development. THE BAD NEWS A $1,000,000 headache. Money allocated for a separate French high school. I feel the SCBE were too quick in passing the decision to Queen's Park, who in turn did not explore all the options. Spend the money in ESPSS and we have a bilingual facility we could all be proud of. Spend it ona duplicate high school and you separate the children during their most for- mative years. Let's get back to "Penetanguishene the friendly. town"' again, - together. Best thanks. regards' and the last six years having been successful in my first attempt in 1975. During my six year term I enjoyed working for the people of this community. I have taken a strong stand on many issues and feel that the positions I have taken represented the feelings of the majority of you the taxpayers of Penetanguishene. I have been Chairman of Finance for the last three years as well as serving on the following Committees - Housing and Development, Planning Board, Area Planning Board, Public Safetv, Arena Parks and Recreation, Industrial Commission, Hwv. 27 Steering Committee as well as numerous other sub committees of council such as Chairman of Salarv negotiations this past vear, Bilingual I was born and raised in Penetanguishene of a bilingual background and left in 1959 to pursue a career in banking. After seven years awav from home, I felt the urge to return to Penetanguishene where I became involved in the Automotive Industry. I am now self employed and now find that I am able to dedicate the time required to fulfill my duties as Mayor if elected. Priority ' I feel that the number one priority of the new elected council for the next two years is the seeking out of new Industry for this area, so that the young people of our community do not have to leave this area to seek employment. ation Program, 'completion and I also feel that the continuation of our Downtown Revitaliz- the im- plementation of the North End Study, the extension of hard ser- vices as well as the need for improvements and upgrading of all ser- vices presently being offered are all areas which have to be given consideration. I feel that most of the above related projects can be accomplished with assistances of government grants so that vou the taxpayers will not be affected. Politics Having been involved ~ with all aspects of municipal politics, I am sure that if elected I can fulfill the duties of Ma wWvLo. se ind. Penetanguishene with dedication, common sense. sound judgment and hard work. Small Places on CKVR features your town Penetanguishene was spotlighted for half an hour Saturday evening on CKVR television's Faces of Small Places program. Much footage was shown of the Historic Naval and Military Establishments and the main street and town dock. Town clerk Yvon Gagne gave a short history of the town, which was intercut with historical photographs and shots of modern Penetanguishene. Wednesday, November 5, 1980, Page 3
