| Cr Risstans Industrial Bowling League The Penetang Industrial Bowling league continues with the Desroches Bros. team stingily holding on to the league's top spot, with a 10-2, won- lost record for a total 24 points. Midland IGA follows up again this week in second spot with the same 10-2 record but only 23 points. With those two teams securing their hold on the first two spots most of the fighting for position seems to be taking place among the next half dozen or so teams. Moving up from fourth spot to take hold of third place is Lakeview Dairy, while Oak Ridge Boy's, (last week's third), dropped to fifth position. Sarjeant Boy's remain in fourth, just a point back cf Lakeview. . Other high single scores went to Leon Laurin and Marc Desroches who tallied 286 and 307, respectively. The Commodore Hotel trophy for high single with handicap went this week to Marc Desroches for his score of 340. GBSSA possibility for MSS senior boys' X-country If all goes well for the senior boys' cross country team at Midland Secondary School, they could be on their way to the GBSSA Championships in Thornhill Oct. 22. Results from the recent cross-country meet held in Barrie at Sunnidale Park saw MSS senior boys' team claim first place, led by Ernie-Desroches. Other finishers in the race were Rod Nanibush, sixth, Rick Scott, ninth, Chris Shearer, 12th, Larry Cadieux, 17th; Rob Jeens, 25th and Dwight Copegog, 35th. Midget boys runners finished in second place behind Orillia District Collegiate with Bill Richardson coming in 10th, Ian Porter in 12th, Bill Black in 15th, Steve Robertson in 19th, and Danny Cadieux in 28th. Dan Guthrie led the Midland Juniors to a fourth place win for the team. Guthrie finished 14th, while Bernard Cadieux, came in 21st, Ken Goldsmith 24th, Paul Northcott 30th and Nick Sklar 38th. A full girls' team was not available but Shaunna Ferguson finished in 26th place for MSS and Laurie Graham and Sandi Thomas came in 32nd and 37th respectively. The next two runs for the teams will be in Barrie on Oct. 9 and 16. St. Theresa's junior boys' volleyball team travelled to Bancroft for the annual North Hastings High School Tournament Saturday and came home champions. Brian Kings suffer first defeat Penetanguishene Jr. Kings hockey club suffered their first defeat of the new season at the hands of the Gravenhurst Indians 5-3 Sunday night in Gravenhurst. In the first 30 seconds of the opening period, Ted -Lahay of the Ipnedaicainzs put Gravenhurst ahead 1-0. Kings didn't wait long to tie it up with puck going in the net for them at the 14 minute mark on a powerplay goal by Terry Pilon from Terry King. They then went ahead two minutes later on another powerplay with Carl Gowan accepting a little help from Doug Gillespie and Todd Clarke. Steve Bice, the current scoring leader of the league tied up the game for Gravenhurst early in the second period. Fifteen minutes into the second period, Carl Cowan tried to make sure Midland stayed ahead as he popped the puck into the twine once more to put Kings ahead 3-2: Gravenhurst came on strong then with three more goals to win the game 5-3. MIDLAND 526-4333 Y couldn't seem to get the breaks to come back from the _ pressure exerted by the Gravenhurst squad as Ted Lahay, Ian Mac- donald and Lenny Willett all scored for the Indians. The game was played hard by both teams with Kings compiling 46 minutes in penalties and Gravenhurst 42. These two clubs will face each other in December back in Penetanguishene when it is likely Kings will turn the tables on Indians. Hearing loss The Canada Safety Council warns that hearing losses can result from exposure to high noise levels over long periods of time. Midland v ballers host tourney Teams from Park St. High School and Twin Lakes High School both from Orillia travelled to Midland Secondary School on Thursday for a tournament hosted by the three boys' volleyball teams at the school. The Midland seniors won all three matches against the visiting schools. Spiking strength was shown by John Faragher and Glen Haughton, aided by the setting of Andy Dorion. Defence was also strong with the per- formances of Al Delange and Kevin Carpenter. Winning all three of their matches were also the junior squad with John Friesen and John Walters demonstrating how an effective 6-2 system works. The midgets defeated Park St. and then went on to play an exhibition game:, against St. Theresa's. Good volleyball was seen in this match up fbr the age group involved.
