Elmvale placed second Midland wins Midland Athenian Raiders took first place and $200 in prize money at the annual Elmvale Mets Softball Tour- nament held in the village last weekend. Approximately 400 fans took in the games, involving 12 teams from all over. As runners-up in the meet, the Elmvale Mets came away with $100 while-Rivalda Tavern of Toronto managed third Tournament matches kicked off early Saturday morning when the Phelpston team faced the Elmvale Animals, coming away with a 7-5 win. Bob Widdis of the Mets ptiched a no-hitter the next game, as his team downed Vasey 1-0. Rivalda Tavern out- played Schlambs 5-0 while Georgian Sports beat Wyevale 5-0. Minesing squeezed by Raiders began their string of wins with a 4-1 victory over New Lowell. In the quarter finals, Elmvale Mets defeated Phelpston 2-0, Rivalda won over Georgian Sports of Barrie 2-1 after 10 innings, and Midland outscored Minesing 3-1 also drawing a bye into the finals. It was there that the host team Elmvale Mets advanced to the playoffs after beating Rivalda 1- 0. Elmvale lost to Midland in a deciding game by a score of 9-1. One of the outstanding players of the tour- nament had to be Elmvale Mets pitcher Mike Stone who threw 15 innings of scoreless ball before tiring in the match against Midland.
