Wawerley news Auction, barbecue, and tournament set by Cindy Lockhart The Waverley Women's Institute held their July meeting, by having a pot luck lun- cheon picnic at Whetham's Park in Orr Lake on Thursday, July 10. Opened by saying the grace, then a delicious selection of food was tried and enjoyed by all. Following lunch, several games were played. Our roll call was for each person to bring an item to be auctioned off. Mrs. Winnie Armstrong made a very good auctioneer. Thanks Winnie. A lot of sun, lots of fun and food made a very enjoyable afternoon for all. The August meeting is to be a tour of several of the plants (industries) in Midland, and supper out. Mrs. Ken Lockhart attended a pot luck supper on Thursday, July 10 at the home of Mrs. Lillian Hankin in Elmvale. This supper was a general meeting for some of the Figure Skating mothers to meet the new Junior Pro, Miss Lynn Bratten of Anten Mills. Lynn has skated with the Elmvale Club for several years. Other visitors to the meeting were Mrs. Penny Young and also Mrs. Yard. Avery pretty wedding took place at _ the Wyevale United Church July 12, when Dawn Bingley of Midland and David Bonang of Orr Lake were married. The reception and wedding dance were held L.O.L. Community Hall at Wyevale. The couple expect to reside in Midland. Mrs. Margaret Marcellus, and her sister Mrs. Helen Todd of Woodstock, spent a very pleasant holiday visiting relatives in Powell River B.C. and with Jeanne Green and family of Portage-La- Prairie. Jeanne is a daughter of Mrs. Marcellus. Belinda Wilder and family spent a few days visiting relatives in Wyevale. On July 5 St. Mark's Anglican Church was the scene of a pretty wedding when Katherine McMartin of Midland and Howard Levack of Wyevale were married. After the wedding a dance and reception was held in the L.O.L. Community hall at Wyevale. The newlyweds are touring the Niagara area and on their return will reside in Wyevale. ~ Members of _ the Wyevale L.O.L. and L.O.B.A. joined with the Elmvale members for the 12th of July "Orange Community mourns Walk."" Good weather and a fine attendance helped make it a very enjoyable "12th." The Walk will be held in by M. Dunlop The community was saddened by the news of the passing of their oldest resident, Mrs. Minnie Boyd, on Monday night at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Boyd had been in declining health for some time. She was born in Matchedash Township on January 11, 1892, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Balk- will. The Balkwill family had moved up to Matchedash from the Osgoode area near Ottawa. Mrs. Boyd was the oldest and longest living member of the George Balkwill famiiy. Her four' brothers, George, Arthur, William and Charlie and two sisters May (Mrs. George Kent) and Bessie, all predeceased her. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boyd also provided a home for Etta Coulter, who attended' the Moonstone school and later became Mrs. Postill of Green River, Ontario. The funeral service was held at_ the Crawford Funeral Home in Orillia and interment service at St. John's Cemetery in Matchedash. Mrs. Boyd was a lifelong member of St. John's Church and anactive member of the Ladies Aid of Knox Church in Moonstone. The service was con- ducted by Rev. Tanner. The pallbearers were Frank Songhurst, Frank Wood, Elmer Balkwill, Morley Balkwill, Lloyd Dunlop and Elmer Robertson. Mr. and Mrs. Don Burk's Falls next year. Kathy Evelyn Marie Beacock (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beacock) of Wendake Partridge have gone to their parents cottage at Bobcaygeon for some holidays. During this ideal summer weather many of the householders have been frantically picking strawberries to make jam and pies for the winter. If the ladies pick the berries then their husbands are responsible for the gardens where weeds are sprouting every minute. In spite of the late frosts, the gardens are doing well. The lemon plant of Mrs. Jean Graham is producing two lemons this year. When they are larger their picture will appear in this section. Mr. Cunningham of Matheson has taken over the duties of the retiring clerk of Med- tone Township, Mr. Howard Robinson. We hope he will enjoy his new location. The reception was held in the Church centre, followed by a wedding dance in the Elmvale Community Centre. After their wedding trip to Niagara the couple will reside in Elmvale. Excitement is running high in Wyevale as Centennial Days ap- proach. There will be a parade of floats and many activities for Saturday. Sunday's worship service and afternoon of visiting and renewing old friend- ships and recalling former events will be a "once in a lifetime experience."' Don't miss it! Several from the Community attended the 12th of July parade in Elmvale on Saturday. Mrs. Bill Curry, Mrs. Jean Crawford, Mrs. Cindy Lockhart and Kristopher spent July 3 in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Walker of Brantford spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Curry. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wooldridge of Toronto visited on July 1 with Mr. and Mrs. Curry. Recent visitors with Mrs. Marg Armstrong are Mr. and -Mrs. DesRoches of Toronto. We are sorry to say that our Super Star Contest has been postponed until a later date. The Waverley Recreation held their monthly meeting on June 30 night at the Centre. Coming events will be a Silent Auction to be run from July 19- Aug.2 at the Centre.
