The society members will have a wild game banquet on the Saturday evening. The general meeting will be open to the public. The last first round game sees Lecar versus Burlington. The action gets Started at 9 a.m. in people dressed ana travelled in the days gone by. Once organized we started the long, exhausting portage down King Street to the main docks where we proceeded to launch our canoes. Tourists, friends and photographers hastily snapped pictures while we, the canoeists, bumped, clunked and slithered, jockeying for the best positions on the starting line. As the "Shondecti paddle'? was lowered, ours were too, as we dug in furiously, attempting to gain a good lead. One canoe tipped several yards from the starting line but the Coast Guard and other boats were all on hand ready to lend assistance. A few more dumped as we travelled through the choppy waters around the coal docks. Throughout the race some people charted to keep up steady paddle rhythms, while others sang Alouette and other French tunes. As we entered the calm lily pad covered Wye River it was much easier going but we were tiring. We knew by this time that others had won by the firing of muskets, and. happy H.S. ST. AMANT & SONS LTD. Wearily we _ hoisted our canoe from the water one by one and gratefully accepted the cold glasses of lemonade and sumach tea. Now there was time to rest and wander through Sainte-Marie park to admire the fine exhibits set up by the Ontario Corp of "'Coureurs de Bois" (Runners of the Woods). Some of the old talents being displayed were hide scraping, fur tanning and one young boy made a fire with a flint while others made moccasins and cut fringes in their hand- made costumes. After this relaxing break we sat on the grass by the stage while those with stamina and ability as well as other charac- teristics went forward to receive their prizes. After the prizes were awarded there was a French sing-a-long and some fun games of the "Coureurs de Bois" such as the tump line and the 25 metre por- tage races. "Shondecti" was so much fun that I feel sure everyone would like to thank all those who made it possible, and VIVA PAPER TOWELS ros L.O9 BAY PHARMACY 88 Main St., Penetanguishene 949-2332 SPECIAL _ Shondecti participant tells his tale others who made arrangements for this festive occasion. I truly hope we'll have another "Shondecti"' next year. Editor's note: Scott Barnum entered the first Shondecti race with Penetanguishene __ Cit- izen editor Rod Deacon. Mr. Deacon was paying off a debt to the Student Employment Centre crew who beat the Media baseball team last week. We _ hired Scott for the race and thankfully, we didn't tip -- thus saving one slightly expensive 35 mm. camera from ruin, not to mention the editor's job. Bank of Commerce Bay Mills Ltd.
