LocalPCs fired up after key convention Delegates from Simcoe East returned home from the three day Ontario Progressive Conservative Party's annual convention with a warning to prepare for a possible provincial election. Premier William Davis gave the warning during a keynote address to 2,000 delegates at the Saturday evening banquet at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto. He said that although he intends to complete the mandate to govern given to the party in 1977, the "irresponsible actions" of the Liberal opposition under Stuart Smith, an election may be forced earlier. Davis blasted the Liberals for their lack of direction in attempting to bring down the govern- ment through motions of non-confidence, such as against the recent budget. The federal Liberals also came under fire when Davis told his audience that Foreign Affairs Minister MacGuigan was not speaking for Ontario residents when he recently criticized the United States over their foreign policy. Local delegates attending the convention as well as Simcoe East MPP Gordon Smith and his wife Jean, were President David Edwards, Allan Byers, Debra Crawford and Grace Lamb of Orillia and Gladys Dale from Coldwater along with Fred Hacker and Barb Hacker of Midland.
