THAT issue Dear Sir: It should come as no surprise to anyone that a French language high school is going to be built here. In spite of the wishes of the majority and the fact that numbers do not warrant it. Quebec has been running this country for as long as I can remember and will probably continue to do so. One has only to look at the representation in the House of Commons. It seems strange to me that the French culture has survived in this area for some 200 years without benefit of a French only high school. Preservation of culture should be left up to the individuals who so desire it. This is how the Polish, Greeks, Germans, Italians, Ukranians, etc. etc. manage it and do very well. Governments should stay out of culture. They only antagonize people and further divide Canada and Canadians with forceful methods. I recently read an article in The Toronto Star stating that several American companies had products they were unable to market in Canada because they are not labelled in French and there is not room on their packages for more printing. It is against the law to market anything here that is not bilingually labelled, however, I recently purchased an envelope of Bromo-Seltzer printed completely in French, not an English word on it. As for the Quebec referendum, I think if the people there don't want to remain a part of Canada let them separate and the sooner the better, then the rest of us can get on with the business of being Canadians. Sincerely, B. Henderson R.R. 1, Penetang Dear Sir: During the month of controversy and positive studies for a French-language secondary school in the Penetanguishene area, I have refused to take sides in the whole affair. However, the articles of the so-called Concerned Citizens for Bilingual Unity (CCBU) in both local Friday papers are an insult to this country. Anyone who read the whole article now knows the true philosophy of this group, all of which is con- trary to the nice label they have tacked on them- selves. With two-thirds of the Penetanguishene Secon- dary School enrolment being from French-language primary schools, it seems ludicrous that some 40 courses are offered in English at the secondary level and only five in French. A decision has now been made, yet the CCBU persists in trying to delay and obstruct progress on the construction of a new French-language secondary school. A more tolerant bilingual attitude should be ex- pressed. LIVE UP TO YOUR NAME, Concerned Citizens for Bilingual Unity, or cease and desist -- enough is enough! I wish to congratulate you, the general public of this area, for not getting involved with such a negative group as the CCBU and I hope you will continue to show the same intelligence and good sense of justice you have shown in the past. Only tolerance, fair play and justice will keep our country together. Sincerely, Gerry Speers RR 1, Perkinsfield Pupils invitation Dear Sir: We are inviting you to our school.
